Why the fuck is Holdo on there? She's not even close to being the worst character introduced in that movie, let alone a contender for the worst anything...

the prequels without jar jar were still terrible. at least he was supposed to be stupid, and honestly the movie he was in was completely skippable so whatever. anakin was unfortunate but at least had some okay moments.

holdo was a shitty, pointless character that made things worse for no fucking reason at all in a depressingly important movie in the franchise (assuming you don't completely discount the new stuff at this point).

Actually, no. If not for Finn's idiotic side-adventure with Rose -- which was largely filler -- Holdo's original plan would have worked. The *only* reason her strategy failed was because the sketchy guy that Finn picked up sold them out to the FO. Otherwise the evacuation would have gone undetected.

In short, yet another reason to hate Finn and Rose.

Other than being related to Jar in the Robot Chicken sketches (as Annie), not really. An achin'? Sounds like a pain reliever commercial.

Anyone who actually believes Rose Tico or Holdo are worse characters than Jar-Jar Binks need to go find a new hobby because obviously thinking critically about fictional characters isn't their strong suit.

At least Jar-Jar had comic relief going for him. Rose doesn't even have that. As a character, Rose is pretty much useless other than to unship Finn and Rey, at least until Rose turns out to be Finn's lost sister

idk, his brief cameo in TFA was my favorite part of the movie. The only shame was that not only did we not get to hear the story about his arm, but he was back to a gold arm in TLJ

In many ways, though, he was kind of the predecessor to Jar-Jar. And the fact that he was basically side-lined in TFA and TLJ is something of a break from the series' continuity, since it was following the droids rather than any one particular character. (Even when they split into two groups in ESB, you had R2 with Luke and C-3PO with the others.)

tbh, the only really surprising thing is that Poe was immediately forgiven after his attempted insurrection. The fact that he got a free pass was a little mystifying, but I guess they're short on men anyway -- literally, because like every new rebel introduced seemed to be a woman =p However, I think their forgiveness was one of of the reasons I wound up liking Holdo even before she played hero

I do feel there's quite a bit of excessive hate for her. Regardless of what folks think about her/Leia's plan and her keeping the plan hidden, I do find it interesting how much flack she gets while Poe, Finn, and Rose seems to get a free pass despite their actions screwing more than half the Resistance.

But Rose usually doesn't catch flack for the inadvertent consequences of her actions, it's more a matter of her characterization, the love angle, and her looks. Especially because story criticisms need to pull in Finn and, to a lesser extent, Poe.

Honestly, I would have preferred Finn x Poe to either Finn x Rose or Finn x Rey. And, if the franchise *wanted* to look more progressive, that's certainly the best way to do it. (It would also explain why Poe seems to get so handsy with Finn...)

To be fair, had another actress played her part, the character *may* have been more tolerable. After all, Tran isn't easy on the eyes or ears. A lot of the quirks that fans found annoying might have instead been endearing. I know that I found her voice grating.

To be honest, I found L3 too ridiculously OTT to be bothered by her. At least unlike Holdo she didn't have a secretive plan that saw most of her allies killed, nor was her apparent hostility to some of her cohorts inadvertantly detrimental to whatever they were doing.

Jar Jar is the worst of those. Anakin is also cheesy as fuck, though with a different actor or director, even the cheesy dialog might have been more tolerable.

Holdo was a jerk for literally no reason. It almost seemed like she was leaving everyone out of the loop because she WANTED a mutiny.

Rose was a good character IMO. I liked her dialog and interactions with Finn. What I didn't like was how pointless their side-story was, but that wasn't the fault of the character.

It's still really good and, more importantly, you're forgetting the games, tv shows, and everything else. And even its more mediocre entries are still pretty fun. The only thing I watched and really disliked so far was TFA (well, that and Genndy's Clone Wars show)

Holdo had an actual purpose. They needed somebody to be in charge other than Leia because it facilitated the mutiny (a large amount of that was the insurrectionists thinking that Leia would have done differently; if Leia was in that seat, it was unlikely that people would have turned on her). No matter what, a character was going to sit in that chain of command.

On the other hand, they *could* have done without Jar-Jar. The Jedi could have used a map of some kind to locate the Gungan City, made their appeal directly to Boss Nass, and then had Boss Nass serve as the representative from the Gungan civilization at the end instead iirc of having him nearby looking at Jar-Jar. As for the senate representative, we didn't need to see anybody there. Jar-Jar is superfluous from a story standpoint since his role wasn't needed to advance the story.

When I first watched the Eps 1-3 I had no issue with Jar Jar...I was also younger and he was made for me. Now I try watching them and it's like fingernails on a chalk board to me. It's painful to try and watch him.
