My cousin does this, but only when someone is nearby to hear him. If he thinks you can't hear him, he's mostly silenced, if you're near its all screaming and yelling at the top of his lungs.

This isn't just trash talk or yelling out when you're frustrated.

This is constant commentary. It's vocally reacting to every single thing that happens in the game. These kids are emulating what they watch because they want to be streamers when they're older. It's the new dream job.

I mean, that's probably a factor, but this really isn't new. Whether it's snarky comments, reading text aloud, or whatever, kids have been doing their own running commentary since video games began. It's probably just better to say that the way they do it now is different.

I don't talk to myself, that's childish. I yell at the game I'm playing or controller I'm using and accusing them of cheating or not working.

I think it's too early to say the next generation will pursue let's playing. However I don't doubt that watching them from a young age, as well as whatever else the youtube algorithms show them, is causing some sort of effect we haven't measured yet.

That said, if they start singing the Finger Family song, it's time to cull and start anew.

The only time I talk while gaming is if I get frustrated and start cussing.....or I am playing online with someone else. Otherwise I am mostly quiet.

I don't talk to myself so much as I broadcast my thoughts verbally. It helps me concentrate and focus on what I'm trying to do in game, be it calculating stats for new gear, or just trying to kill someone in game.

Part of the reason why I pick up languages rather easily, the main reason my English is so good, even among my peers under similar conditions

Talking to yourself is a great stratrgy for people with ADD.

It's easy for your swarm of random thoughts to drown out your "thinking voice" but it's really hard for them to drown out your actual spoken voice unless you've been talking nonstop for quite some time.

I've noticed this with my little brother in law. He watches youtube streamers for mobile games all the time. Then when he plays those games, he does commentary just like them. It's annoying because he isn't aware how loud he is when he does it.

yea it's pretty damn hard now, but that's not the point im making.

the point is that now there is a dream in place for potentially every kid that they can make a career out of streaming or get famous for it, or at the very least make money (for a kid that has $0 income, making money out of gaming has always been very lucrative).

so what will, and probably already is happening is that now many people are going to play games not because they like them but because it's their dream to be famous and adored and make money and get shit for free, and whenever you add a profit incentive into an activity that never had one it doesnt really bode well.

reminds me of youtube, for example, where it started out as people having fun and making funny videos because it was enjoyable, and now that you can make a living from it, the site is all people baiting views, trying to game the system, etc.

this is an old man rant but i kind of see gaming going in this direction in the future, where increasingly more and more games will be designed as to provide as content for histrionic kids to broadcast themselves moreso than games designed just to be fun, if that makes any sense

I don't talk, I did however used to play games and move the controller like where I wanted to go during heated moments. Like if my character jumped I tried moving the Nintendo controller up, or in a racing I'm doing a turn and I'm turning with the controller too.

This talking over gameplay is a newer thing with the let's players and stuff. If it was happening before it was not as wide spread as it is now. Sure you can cuss and trash talk friends while playing, but if you're sitting there talking to nothing and nobody is around, then what the hell.

I verbalize my thoughts all the time. People have caught me walking down the street talking to myself, and call me out on it. It's hilarious and a tinge embarrassing.

Good to that it's going to be more accepted in the future thanks to the rise of LPers. Thank you LPers even though I think you guys should get a job that actually contributes to society.
