I rewatched Angel a few years ago and really liked it, had no problem.

But man....buffy, at least the first season....is really hard to watch. I know I really liked it when it aired, and I wasn't a kid then, but man......my tastes must have seriously changed.

Yeah, I loved way back when but a year or so back I noticed several episodes were airing. Maybe a marathon or something. But after two episodes I had to quit.

I don't even remember how Buffy started but I remember it got really stupid near the end.

I don't remember that problem with Angel, but to be honest I don't remember a whole lot about either show anymore.

Buffy is one of my top ten favorite shows of all time. The cast of characters are great and interact well with each other. I think that is what really made the show so great is how well the cast worked. The special effects and stories can get cheesy, but the cast more than makes up for it.

That said, the first season wasn't that great. It was okay, but far from great. The show didn't really get great until the second season when Spike showed up as the Big Bad. That's when it really found its footing and became a great show.

The first season was a bit slow paced, and the effects haven't aged well.

Yeah, I am just about to hit the second season I think, so I'll push through.

I always did like Angel more, which is why I rewatched it a few years ago, and not buffy. Since I have seen it too recently though, I decided to give buffy a try.

I had done that with Smallville not that long ago, and didn't have any problems with that show at all. Even the first season was good.

Firefly, Angel, Smallville, Supernatural all work fine without any....aging issues.

Buffy season 1 though.....not so much. I would not watch that show today if it was airing...which is pretty sad. I do remember liking spike (especially when he moved over to angel), and the actor who played him has been in tons of shows since then (like smallville), but I don't remember why he was actually a "goodish" vampire, since I don't think he got his soul back at any time.

That was Angel's excuse/reason for being good....why was spike a goody goody?

It sucks that it was meant to be in 4x3 but some versions forced widescreen.
As a result the screen is stretched and you can sometimes see the edge of the set/the crew.

It's interesting how opinions shift.

Spike's soul spoilers

Spike did get his soul back in season 6 of Buffy. Basically Spike wants to become good because he falls in love with Buffy. He doesn't really understand love without a soul though. At one point he basically ends up raping Buffy. He has remorse for that and goes off on a journey to discover how to restore his soul. He finds a demon shaman, and Spike undergoes a series of brutal trials. He passes the trials and the shaman restores his soul.

i never liked spike having a romantic relationship with buffy it was the reason why i stopped following the show back in the day.

I don't remember that. All I remember is Spike having sex with the Buffy-bot and programming it to say something like, "Oh Spike! You're such a Big Bad!"

Do you mean the episode where she and her college boyfriend (Riley) have sex all day long in his fraternity room and inadvertently unleash some ghosts with repressed sexual feelings?

Man, I forgot about Riley, that won't come along for awhile.

I'm sure I saw how spike got his soul when it aired, but...it was so long ago I really don't remember much from the buffy series at all. She gets like....a fake sister? I think, Willow becomes a witch (and a lesbian?)....um...seriously that is about it...although I think she switches watchers eventually, oh and I remember the whole faith stuff (Buffy dies for a sec, so new slayer, who was actually a better slayer I think anyway).

Oh well, gonna push through been so long I don't remember most of it. Spike I guess already had his soul once he hit Angel, or at least I don't remember them talking about it when I re-watched it.

I think I just need to get through the first season or two, a few shows in the past have been like that, really hard to get through the first season then it picks up (and you get more invested in the characters etc).

Always found Cordiallia the hottest of the girls though, another reason I liked Angel so much:)

Supernatural season 1 is awful and, since most of it involves what would become staples, it's kinda painful to watch. Plus the acting is shaky in s1.

I was able to watch Supernatural season 1 though fairly easily, but probably due to watching the current seasons. I do vaguely remember the first season being a bit meh, but it wasn't like I had to force myself to watch them. I was currently invested in the characters though and it was cool to see how it all started.

That made it different.

Smallville had some rocky episodes in the first season as well to be honest, though I like the seasons with Lex more then any others, which makes the first bunch much better in comparison. Lex made that show for me.

There was only 1 season of firefly, so thats kinda hard to judge, it still rocks though.

And Angel honestly was a more adult spin off of buffy after they had a chance to get the script down, with already developed characters etc, so it really isn't fair.

Actually, I can't believe Supernatural is still airing now that I think about it. I'm very glad it is, but it's hard to believe it's been on so long!

I'm disappointed that the spinoff with the girls didn't get greenlit. It was the *only* backdoor pilot in the show that actually made sense and was something I'd wanted to see, particularly since the actors playing Sam & Dean are going to get too old eventually.

It's certainly run a lot longer than other shows of its kind.

Nope. I forgot about that lol.
This is where she first sleeps with spike in the abandoned building. It's condemned and they keep slamming into walls while they bang. And they have super strength and the foundation can't take it.

Yeah, there have been a few, meh, seasons, but the show keeps on recovering. I heart Cas, but like most of the characters tbh. I am going to be sad when they finally do cancel it. They are probably going to run out things to do eventually lol. I mean....seriously they have done just about everything possible at this point!! What show recovers from literally having god as a character?

There's pretty much endless material now that alternate dimensions have been established although I'm kinda unsure whether they all fall under the same god
