We could rent a game a week (but the rental period was like 3 days.)

Rent FF6, play a few days, return it, and then hope we got the same copy back when we re-rented it. Shit sucked.

But yes, I've found save games from other people and used to enjoy reading the names they named characters.

Finding people's finished saves was the best part because I sucked at playing some games and I was never gonna beat them back then anyway.

I would sometimes play a random save if I was stuck somewhere. Usually all those games had a completed save file.

Of course I would always start my own too and if the list was full, I'd choose some random save to overwrite >_> Not that my save was intact either whenever I would rerent it a week or 2 later

i never deleted saves. i created some awesome saves kids at school told me about when they rented it after me. like i rented FF3 and I saved basically a 100% game and then there was some trick to level up your guys really early and created a second save early game with everyone like level 50.

my brother did it on some game as well where he got something really hard on a save and in middle school track and field the high schoolers were coming up to him saying how awesome he is because of video games.

I deleted everything that was already on there but left my save when I returned it as something for the next guy to live up to. It was an accomplishment to finish an RPG on a 2-3 day rental. The only one I really had trouble finishing on time was Super Mario RPG.

Never deleted unless no slots available.

Actually my first experience of EarthBound was a save file at the end of the game.

I always rented Mischief Makers and could never get past the Olympics. Luckily the copy I rented always had a completed file on it, so I just mess around with that lol

That's what I moss most about renting games. Seeing other saves and messing around or adding to them.

thinking about it, this

I mostly rented stuff prior to the widespread use of battery saves, or stuff that doesn't have battery saving features like most shmups and beat em ups

I remember when I was young, I rented Yoshi's Safari but I didn't have a Super Scope, so I couldnt play it >_> So I just watched the title demo for like 20 minutes before complaining to my mom and bringing it back. Luckily the clerk was nice enough to let us exchange for a different game for free.

Few years ago my Wii broke right after I borrowed Super Mario Galaxy 2. They let me exchange it for a PS3 gameeven tho it was a personal problem. I never really had a problem with renting games.

Back when I was like 4 or 5 we (33 now) we used to play NES on a small black and white TV. Worst game I ever rented was "Where's Waldo" on the NES. You can't find that asshole in black and white and I was too dumb to think about it.

I rented FF6 (3 on the snes) once. There was a save in the Cave to the Sealed Gate. That file was pretty much ruined. The characters were almost dead, with shitty equipment and no healing items left. It was almost impossible to even get out of there and save on the world map without dying on the way

Yeah I just looked up a video of some dude playing it. Game was REAL bad. They made up for it with their future games though.

I never deleted mine. It was always the best feeling when you would rent a game, didn't finish it but went back to rent the same game later and no one had erased your save file yet.

Some of the names people came up with were funny, and it was cool to check in on their progress or jump straight to end game in some cases if you couldn't get all the way through/didn't feel like playing the game again. Sometimes you'd come across the stacked mega save where the dude had farmed lives or was super OP. Maybe even used some codes/Game Genie/Gameshark/etc.

Never deleted my save and if there were no free slots. I would delete the one with the least progress.

There was this specific copy of Goldeneye from a small rental store/tanning salon. I rented it all the time because it had most of the cheats unlocked. This was before I knew you could unlock cheats with button combinations.

I used to always rent games, and sometimes accessories even though we'd end up buying them anyway.

I got two or three things of note. One was a memory card with ff7 data that had a save with Sephiroth on the team. The second was a hacked/counterfeit version of yellow that had all the gen 2 Pokemon which blew my mind as a kid. And the last one was a super Mario 64 game save with 12 stars but the cannon was open

Who knows.

Maybe it was some 13 year old who didn't know how to spell. Maybe there was a character constraint when you named your character and they couldn't fit "death". Or maybe he was really trying to name him Dr Deaf, but didn't spell it right. Either way, that person managed to get all the way to the end of the game, so they couldn't have been completely stupid.

"Def" was a hip hop slang word in the 90s.
