They announced RWBY as their next big project and fans ate it up, similar to the Blizzard-fan/Bethesda-fan phenomena. Their big thing about creating 'the first American Anime' also certainly helped to at least create buzz and interest. Their fans being western and watching Halo machinima and podcasts/let's plays are far less likely to be super familiar with anime as a medium and thus don't realize how mediocre RWBY is in comparison to many other works. The appeal was a semi high-budget for him to go all-out, but after he passed away it was just a Rooster Teeth thing. Sugar Pine is okay, and Cricken is a great cameo in any video he's in but everyone else dragged in has been mediocre at best. ScrewAttack was good overall but when they split into Game Attack it fell off, just like when Creatures split with CowChop Jeremy isn't the worst replacement for Ray, but Ray knew how to meme and be entertaining.
