I like Kingdom Hearts better and I can sum up why in a quick paragraph. Everything in 1 feels like it has a purpose. All of the words with the exception of Pooh feels like Sora either learns something important or something important happens towards the story. And each world feels like I have a meaning for being there other than replaying the events of that particular movie. I think in a perfect world Kingdom Hearts would have had 2's gameplay and it would be a much better overall game.

I also like Kingdom Hearts 1 more and I think a bulk of why is because it just has a certain.....magic and innocence in the story that it lost with the games past it. I still love the entire series don't get me wrong. But I feel like there's just some weird shit that's super charming in 1 that just doesn't come back. Like *spoilers for last world kind of, and last world in 2* The End of the World entire level is just fuckin weird, and even though The World That Never Was in 2 is SUPER AWESOME and I love it, it doesn't have the same wtf-ness that The End of the World has.

Yeah, I'll readily admit that Kingdom Hearts 2 is a "better" game in almost every conceivable way, but 1 will always be my favorite just because the whole experience is so charming.

Yeah but DDD has balloon spam so at least its relatively easy I guess? Plus I really wanted Ultima for both of them.

Chain of Memories (which if you care about the story does need to be played before 2) however... eeeh... its hit or miss gameplay wise. Probably more miss for most people.

I think the goal is to play as much as i can before kh3.

I totally get where the KH1 crew is coming from - honestly KH1 still feels like the ONLY game in the series where the Disney worlds actually matter to the plot. Everywhere else, KH2 included, they feel like meaningless filler.

KH1 wins easy on the charm, but KH2 dominates in gameplay way too hard for me not to put it at the top.

I played like maybe an hour of the original KH on release and I didn't like it so never bothered playing it past that. Maybe I was harsh on it as I don't remember what I didn't like, just that I didn't like the battle system for some reason

Im a diehard these days, but when I first tried KH way back when, I stopped playing for months after doing a little of Tarzans stage. Not sure what it was, but it didnt click for me. Then I forced myself to try again and here I am. I think the first 1-2 hours of that game just does that sometimes.

Oh... Apparently he dies really really fast too.

Found a cheesy way to beat him by casting cure to gain immunity from his aoe fire attack. So i was able to just keep pounding on him constantly.

I'm gonna need you to get on this harder. GANON has already gone through 2 games since you started this lol.

Oh yea Chernabog.....so you can make it so you don't have Leaf Bracer during that fight depending on your weapon choice and give up at the beginning(and technically the original didn't have Leaf Bracer at all)

So on Proud mode let me tell you NOT A GOOD TIME DO NOT RECOMMEND

Yeah, Cherby was surprisingly hard on Proud. Although I blame the flying mechanics more than anything he actually does.

Can we not have boss battles rely on half-assed changes to the gameplay? The final boss didn't get this memo either!

As kid those enemies (Invisibles and Angels) were THE ABSOLUTE WORST. I hated them more than anything else.

Then I discovered how useful status magic is. Stop prevents them from becoming invincible, and Gravity drains all of their HP so you can just finish them off with a combo. At least on Proud, it turns them from "nightmare" to just "hard".

Stop is the one magic I never remember to use in KH1.

I use all of the other spells fairly consistently (though not as consistently as everything in KH2) but I just never remember Stop is an option.

Watching gdq reminded me of all the magic i didn't use.

Magic is great in both games, but summons in KH1 kind of blow compared to summons in KH2 tho

The only useful ones are Genie (for fighting regular enemies), Tinker Bell (for bosses), and Bambi (for synth farming).

Simba is just bad, and Mushu and Dumbo are only marginally useful for some of the rare heartless while synth farming (but its probably better to just do the ones they work on a different way).

In 1 you only have so many options so summons can still be a good assistance

Summons are fantastic in KH2, but you have to NOT use their Limits and just keep them around as party members. They'll last forever and give you buffs.

There is very little that is overpowered in KH2. The barrier spell is the only thing I'd come close to saying is overpowered. Maaaaybe magnet too, but...

I guess you could argue Final Form is, but it comes so late in the game it doesn't really matter.

Sora himself is overpowered in KH2 lol he's like god status, why do you think they made the amount of HP bars get so high

i actually just beat a replay of KH1 (in the 1.5+2.5 bundle) yesterday. For the first time I beat all the secret and optional bosses(on Proud even).

Cure with leaf bracer and MP Rage is honestly broken and makes any fight other than seph a joke.

Any time you take damage immediately cast cure, you're invulnerable while doing it if you have leaf bracer and you have enough invincibility frames to start casting it. Also literally never jump

That should at least get you through half the fight.

358/2 between CoM and KH2 is nice if you've already been through the games, which I guess is why it's that way in the collection, but I definitely think it works better after KH2 on your first experience.
