As a bump for this topic since I can't sleep, can I just say that Devil Trigger > Devils Never Cry

Devils Never Cry is cool and I like it, but I feel like most of the people who listen to it only listen to like, video game music exclusively so it's banking more on nostalgia. Devil Trigger feels like a more well crafted song. Also I'm quite surprised how popular Devils Never Cry is given the unclean vocals, like I'm into that shit with my music background but most people usually aren't.

It's a hype as fuck song attached to a fun game.

Alright finally got some time in to do another mission, this time 5

Boy this game just keeps oozing charm. Those two bosses where their heads are on the actual swords is super cool, and I quite liked the dialogue before the fight with Dante waiting for them to finish talking. Fuckin sick looking weapons too I'll tell you what. Also a very fun boss fight.

Can't play too much more tonight but I decided to see what the beginning of Mission 6 was and was rewarded with Lady fuckin KILLING IT. I dunno how the Lady and Trish waifu wars go but Lady has made a STRONG impression so far.

I played some more

Was doing Mission 7, literally got Vergil one hit from killing him and then he broke out and killed me. Really mad about that, I was doing good that fight but I went in to the fight with like half health. And then I accidentally selected to restart the mission, not remembering how long it was to get up to that point. So that's me done for the night.

Btw actually not a hard fight, you can stun lock him pretty easily if you keep on top of him. Super fun though.

Awesome cutscene with Dante scaling down the tower. This game is like peak mid 2000s edgy badassery which if anyone knows me I'm 1000000000% about.

Now we're in the stomach of a flying megladon type demon? And hey there's a pirate ship inside.....is that a reference to the first game or just a coincidence?

Vergil is an upset teenager who is trying reeeeally hard to be/appear strong and confident, so I think his voice is pretty much perfect.

Dante running down the tower is completely nonsensical in the best way.

Oh, so THAT'S why her name is Lady. I've always thought "man what a dumb fuckin name, who gets named Lady" but this makes sense.

Just beat Nevan I guess is her name? Kind weird battle in which you really have to be patient, I went in super aggressively the first 2 times I fought her and got burned. 3rd time I waited out her attacks and it was much simpler. Feel like that's not quite in the spirit of the series but eh, felt like the way the battle played out really wanted you to play defensively and time your atttacks.

Guitar scythe that summons bats? Alright then.

Also Mission 10 opening cutscene, damn Vergil that was cold. I kind of thought Vergil was this person that started out against Dante but was never REALLY committed to it, and then sometime down the line becomes a sort of anti hero. But doing that was pretty damn villainous. It could still happen down the line but coming back from "I have no more use for you, so die" is tough.

Nevan is maybe the most fun weapon in the game, but only after getting all its upgrades and when using Swordmaster. Otherwise it's pretty underwhelming.

ok yea I was about to say, it seems fun but I'm not sure if I'm vibing with it as much as the dual swords. Like I see HOW it could be good, I'm just not good with it.

This and 99% Trickster is what I did on my first run - probably the most "boring" build in the game but it still manages to be balls to the wall awesome, that's the magic of DMC3, lol.

Swordmaster - Good for styling on random enemies with with different kinds of weapon moves. Excellent at building style meter, less useful in boss fights.

It is not less useful in certain boss fights, using a certain uppercut move. It destroys health bars.

alright think I'm gonna finish up tonight with ending Mission 11. Fought some giant ogre dude with angel wings, he got quite annoying in that end phase with that AOE. Died to him the first time with.....not one more hit left to beat, but like a combo left. I swear for some reason I can get through most fights decently well first go and then I fuck it up right at the end or some bullshit happens or something

I feel that pain. That happened to me multiple times against Beowulf when I recently played through the game again.

Yeah I find Swordmaster useful in all kinds of boss fights. Rebellion getting an aerial rave option alone makes it very useful to have for a lot of the oversized bosses (like Beowulf) never mind the superior damage options on the ground and greater ease in keeping the style meter up. If you're good at dodging it's the best option for bosses (and everything else) imo.

Vergil part 2! Pretty straight forward again but with added Beowulf and Devil Trigger forms. I may have used a holy water just to speed the battle up a bit while he was in Devil Trigger mode.

In other news I maxed out Trickster and got Quicksilver. So I might try to fuck around with that a bit and die multiple times because it's probably a Style that you need to be really good at the game for.

You have to beat him up to knock him out of Devil Trigger quicker. He was staying in it forever because you were fighting like a coward probably.

The idea is to use your own devil trigger to have a better chance at shutting his down.

ah ok, felt like when I attacked him during it it didn't seem to do much. Well other than that I had that battle pretty down since he's quite easy to dodge

It takes a bit to knock him out of Devil Trigger form, but it's really hard to win the fight otherwise due to his health regen.

Well in any case finished Mission 14, and sure why not Dante be able to swing his motorcycle around in mid air riding up a collapsing building with fire coming out of it

I've seen some things about the series like "Do you think the developers were self aware during all of this or did they think it was totally legit" and I honestly question how people could think they were NOT self aware

I decided to check out Swordmaster style.....yoooooooo my one complaint with DMC combat gets alleviated here: attacking in the air! Well, more than what they usually give you. This style is cool. I'm still a sucker for dodging so I don't think I'll ever not have Trickster as #1 but this is dope.

You know what's not dope though, those fuckin angel enemies that float all around and into walls and shit. Super annoying to fight.

oh another cool thing about Swordmaster: by having attacks in air, it delays your return to the ground so you can avoid a good chunk of enemy attacks. Good shit.

Wow Lady was....well she tried! I like how easy that fight was actually, very thematic for the plot to show that she really doesn't have a chance against her father since she's only human and Dante is the one that needs to do it.

Lady gets a gold star for being the only human in the series who can walk into demon territory and not immediately die, but it's a little too difficult to beat someone who shrugs off headshots when all you have are guns.

Doppelganger fight was also quite easy. I enjoyed it though, gimmick battles like that can work when done right. And now a new style which I doubt I'll really be able to use since it's the end of the game.

Been focusing on getting Beowulf moves unlocked, just got enough to get RISING DRAGON which I have to get solely for the name

Yeah all the trained soldiers in the DMC5 trailer got mowed down like chumps. Their bullets didn't even do anything! I guess bullets are just better when Lady (or Dante or Nero) use them. Makes sense.

Beowulf is the best weapon in the game naturally, and absolutely broken if you learn to master one somewhat glitchy trick I'll tell you about after the game is over.
