Used to be good until 2001 before Halo got popular and everyone tried to imitate it. After Half-Life 2, the last good FPS to come out was DOOM a couple years ago.

To be fair, I do not like the genre. I've tried multiple series and I just can't get into them at all.

I liked Borderlands and Left 4 Dead, but that's it.

Has some of the best games ever like Team Fortress franchise

8 because they generally have multiplayer which increases replay value immensely in my book

Portal was great, and the Borderlands franchise started pretty good.

Forgot about Portal. But when I think of FPS, I think of actually shooting someone or something up. Portal is mainly a puzzle game in a FPS format.

Literally the worst mainstream genre. Its only saving grace is the Metroid Prime series, if you count those as fps.

I don't enjoy the vast majority, and the fps games I do enjoy typically have other elements in it like Borderlands, Destiny and Overwatch.

Can't get into stuff like CoD and I'm not very competitive unless it's team/objective based.

Consistently fun, though call of duty auto aim assist makes online no fun since everyone runs the same set after a month because there are 3-4 guns worth using. Toxicity aside, overwatch has been everything I want in a shooter.

Overwatch is barely a shooter. Half the stuff in there doesn't even resemble a gun to me despite them "shooting". It's just a competitive first person action game with MOBA elements.

It also looks like garbage. The setting/aesthetic is cringey. Like if you were to peer into the mind of a 9 year old with ADHD.

5. Used to be like an 8 or 9 but it was largely sacrificed on the alter of endless online deathmatch BS and other multiplayer fuckery which I've little to no interest in.

Also Portal is not an FPS, nor is Metroid Prime.

Calling Metroid Prime an FPS and likening it to something along the lines of Halo is the same as calling Super Metroid a side-scrolling shooter and likening it to Contra.

I was there in '85, and it was awesome.

9/10. Probably the smoothest gameplay experience in gaming. Good games have good story modes, bad games don't. The genre can stagnate sometimes but it's in a healthy place right now imo.

8. As said before multiplayer increases replayability which goes a long way. Timesplitters was a great example of story + multiplayer. CoD/Battlefield is a good example of sacrificing story for PvP.

The genre is one of the higher rankings for me IMO even if I'm not a huge fan of them outside of couch split screen with my IRL friends. That's where they really shine though and as long as FPS keep making splitscreen multiplayer I'll keep playing them.

This is when I suddenly, and sadly, remember that I never had anyone to play Portal 2 with...

Pretty fun if playing with friends either local co-op or online. Meh otherwise unless it has an awesome single player experience. 8.
