You should try playing it again (especially the Final Mix version on PS3/4 which is much improved), on the hardest difficulty (don't play lower because then it turns into a mash X simulator). It 100% holds up in terms of gameplay and in fact is even better than I remembered. Story is way more dependent on the person, personally I like it, but I definitely understand people that don't. ...
