That's called sociopathy. Get some help. People who make bad choices don't deserve to suffer and starve and die over them.

Who said they deserve to die? I for one hope they go better themselves using the "fuck you" as motivation.

Yeah because people are born into circumstances out of their control.

A lot of inner city schools don't offer AP courses. Those students are already at a disadvantage.

Why do you think I didn't notice?

They're increasing prices because they're following the change in the equilibrium price. Charging seventeen cents more is exceeding equilibrium price and decreasing revenue.

And they're still raising prices. They're charging you more for a chicken sandwich today than they did in 2015 and it doesn't line up with the cost of production for that chicken. You're so worried about "if they raise wages they have to raise prices and that'll affect me!"....But they're already doing it to you.

I think you're a little confused here.

I'm not talking about any of those things, and I definitely do think minimum wage needs to increase.

It's just that "just charge more, then we can pay our employees more" is like nails on a chalkboard to anyone who has taken a 101 economics class.

No. Just no. The price of fast people would go up a few cents but that's not a massive inflation problem.

Here's the thing though. If no skill workers are all getting paid $15 an hour, then every skilled position under the sun will demand raises as well. Now we're back to square one because everything is inflated and the people making $15 an hour aren't in any better of a spot.

Also leftists: We refuse to acknowledge the perverse economic incentives that come from paying people to not work and/or to have kids that they cant afford.

But my point still stands even if your deflection was true. The worst we'd see assuming everyone's wage under McDs is minimum, is a 25% increase.
So your $2 burger goes to $2.50

Ya'll know this probably won't cost all that many jobs, right?

Everything I've seen about it says that they still have to have a cashier because (a) some people don't want to use the kiosks and (b) you still have to go to the register if you want to pay cash. If anything, it might add a role to the McDonald's staff because you have to have someone to help dumbass people order through the kiosks.

The real thing to learn here is that if a machine can do your job better than you, you need to step up your game. People okay with this are probably like me, tired of dealing with cashiers that can't get basic orders right, make change without the computer telling them what to pay, and act like they're stoned on the job treating customers like inconveniences to the conversation they're having.

Culturally we've been idiots for a long time. We been automating out jobs, while at the same time showing the less than ideal education standards or a direction that takes this into account. I'm not surprised. Even now the responses critical seem to assume that UBI or low skill jobs need to exist as the only possible avenue for people because there's no way they could be made better employees.

Honestly I don't see Chick Fil A swapping anytime soon.

The one near my work had 5 people in the car lanes* with ipads writing up orders n shit. They always have insanely good service. Yeah it costs a bit more but I would pay for the quality service. I probably don't represent the norm on that though.

Honestly, I think the same thing that happened with Walmart and Kroger is going to happen. They'll convert, people will bitch because the machines go down, then they'll put more cashiers out.

edit: Also still, a lot of places have online ordering now which is effectively the same thing.

The McDonalds near my work has had them for a few months now and I love it. I also hate how many people just refuse to use it. I see so many people go to it, look at it for a second, and then go to the counter. The person behind the counter then walks them back to it and goes through it with them. They technically can ring them up at the counter, but they're trying to get everyone used to the kiosks.

One lady went to the counter with the excuse "I don't want to touch that screen, it's probably really dirty", and the lady behind the counter (nicest fast food worker I've ever seen in my life) said with a smile and a laugh "well your about to touch money, and you touched the handle to open the door to the building."

Oh shut up. First off fast food isnt the only minimum wage job. 2nd off stop trying to combine the two. This was happening with $7 minimum or $15 minimum. Automation is constantly replacing jobs. Has been for decades. Weve had self checkout and self ordering machines at restaurants for years now. None of this is new. None of this is a direct result of raised wages. Stop trying to play that false narrative.

Those are pretty synonymous in business terms. People that haven't been automated out had to show they were better than the machine trying to replace them at producing results. Even if there wasn't a wage savings, it would still be better to use a machine that can handle 20 orders in the time a live person can do 10, or 5, so the person needs to try and do 20 or offer some value the machine doesn't.

My town has them and no one uses them, I guess most of you people live in bigger cities or something. I hate the fucking machines and I get pissed off every time I get asked to use one. I'm 31, by the way, so I guess I'm one of the few "millennials" that hates automation. If the person fucks up my order, I tell them and just wait for them to fix it, but they never mess up my order, so I guess my fast food workers aren't brain-dead like the ones you guys seem to deal with.

What I hate more than those kiosks, though, are the self check-outs at walmart. I refuse to scan and bag my own shit, and obviously everyone else feels the same way around here because all the check-outs that have human cashiers are always full while the self check-outs are empty.

Kiosks kinda suck if you want to pay with cash. By the time you get done with your order and have to take the ticket up to pay there is a line of old people that refuse to even attempt it and you contemplate why you even went to the kiosk to begin with.

Plus they wont let you switch the sausage patty out for bacon in the big breakfast platter =/

People trying to blame this on higher minimum wage need to shut the fuck up. The price of technology is constantly decreasing. You could keep minimum wage at $7.25 and technology would still win out, if not now then in the near future. Meanwhile prices are increasing as wages do not keep pace. Do you think they should reduce minimum wage to compete against technology? Let's pay worker $1 an hour to compete! Don't be silly.

Well, it could also have something to do with the average IQ of a Walmart shopper, which is a legit challenge for full on automation. People are dumb and\or afraid of computers.
