From this point forward, all Icelanders will be organ donors by default, unless they specify otherwise.
The concept of the law is fairly simple. All Icelanders will be assumed to be organ donors by default, with two exceptions: if the deceased specified beforehand that they do not want their organs to be removed, or if the deceased said nothing on the matter but their closest relative objects.
Studies conducted in Iceland showed that when asked, people about to die were only willing to donate their organs 60% of the time.

In reality 99% will have no idea that they are donors by defeault and therefore cant opt out, and usually opting out lot of paperwork, so in reality you are owned by state and your body is used as seems fit

Your first sentence stated that they could specify otherwise. I see literally nothing wrong with having that be something that you opt out of rather than opt into. I see more than enough situations in our hospital with people waiting in vain for organs that will never get them to give a fuck about a corpse still having their organs when they're buried or cremated. Hell, I've seen situations where people were organ donors but their family overrode their wish after they passed.

I am from Hungary, you are considered donor unless you opt out.
99% have no idea that you are assumed as donor
Opting out, involves lot of paperwork(and usually rejected by excuses "bad form" etc,resubmit your documents ), time and effort. So yes you can opt out if you are going great lengths to do so but really hard to do so.

I don't care what happens to my body after I'm dead. But look at how the left is pushing for socialized medicine. And look at how well they treat people who ruin their own health (fat acceptance, injection rooms, etc.) If we accept this, then we're just a stone's throw away from government doctors confiscating your organs and redistributing them to othera. I'm not going to accept some doctor letting me die so they can harvest my organs to give them to people who they feel are more deserving of them. The government already does this with your money that you work for, don't think that they won't start doing the same with your organs.

Anyhow, I feel uneasy about my body being "dismantled" after death, but I also feel uneasy about everything and anything that happens to my body after death (decompostion/cremation). But death is death. It's the ultimate off switch, the departure to afterlife, a journey to the proverbial final frontier. Whatever you want to call it, death as we know it is unavoidable and permanent. Maybe some day we'll understand how a bunch of cells sending tiny electrial sparks and chemical signals equals a sapient person, and maybe then we can reverse death or preserve our consciousness despite our body's finite lifespan. To that end, perhaps it's crucial to donate our bodies to science, or our organs to an ailing scientist who can then work longer on unlocking the secrets of life? Or maybe that scientist is in the future, but today is a child in dire need of a new heart?

In any event, and rationally speaking, it's selfish and wasteful to keep your healthy organs to yourself in death.

If that's your belief then I guess I can understand why you'd think like that. If you think that you arrive in the afterlife without organs because you've donated them or whatever.

I don't believe in an afterlife so that's possibly why I will not hesitate at donating organs. But wouldn't it be a greater religious act to use your organs to save the lives of your neighbour or whatever?
