7th grade in shop class when the first plane hit, didn't find out what happened until orchestra which was my next class and then they sent everyone home even though we were in Georgia

In that shop class we had played a plane simulator (for all of the 2-3 weeks that school was in session before 9/11) while we were waiting on the machine to sculpt stuff. We also intentionally crashed that plane into mountains and buildings. So after 9/11 the teacher uninstalled that game :/

In one of my classes, maybe one of those dumb sciences. The towers started freaking all of us out and then when the pentagon started getting attention it got real crazy. School was maybe 30 minutes from there so everyone was well aware and plenty of people had parents working there.

My dad had retired from the army, and working at the pentagon a couple years prior and I had been there numerous times so that started going through my head and then hearing everyone talk was just too nuts so I dipped. Went home and watched everything in my room.

I was 10

We were all in class. Had no idea what was going on. All we found out was we were all going home early.

Then I REALLY had no idea what was going on because we hadn't heard from our dad in a while. He was in the basement of the pentagon right below where the crash happened. My mom was able to find out the night of the crash at least that he was safe. I eventually heard of his safety the next day. As a 10 year old my mind couldn't wrap my head around a crisis like that.

I'm finally old enough to look back and truly thank whatever the hell is out there that I still have a father.

I was 15 and in high school in Colorado at a school with about 3,000 students. I saw the initial news reports as I was sitting in the living room watching TV waiting for my Mom to drive me to school and I was basically dumbfounded. When I first got to school my first class everyone was just watching what was happening on the news and then when the first building fell down the principle asked all the teachers to turn off their televisions.

Then in my next class people were basically just talking about rumors they had heard like "I heard a plane hit the Pentagon" or "I heard someone blew up the white house" basically mixes of truth and imaginings.

Then at some point in the middle of the day they just stopped classes and said people could go home for the day but they weren't pushing people out the door I hung out with friends at school watching some TVs that had been set up in the cafeteria and then I walked home a couple hours later.

It felt surreal.

Working at the Washington Navy Yard at the time. Just ended a morning meeting when news came that "planes had hit the World Trade Center." (the "s" bolded as it dawned on me that MORE than one plane could not have been an accident). Later learned that a plane hit the Pentagon; at the time I lived in an apartment less than a mile away.

St Lucian here.
I remember coming home from (infant or primary) school with my younger sister, it might have been for lunch to where my grandmother was living at the time. First thing I saw coming in the house was the TV on CNN and two towers.
Wouldn't get what went down until a bit later.

Was a junior in high school. Out of all of my classes, only 2 of them took the whole period to watch the news while the rest just went ahead with the schedule as planned. In my digital imaging class, the teacher left the tv on CNN and let us watch it for the entire class (most of us used our work stations to play Quake 3 on LAN). The other class was a government class and the teacher was telling us we our witnessing history live and that this will be a moment where you will remember where you were when it happened. During this class was when the 1st tower fell.

High School, freshmen year. Was going to class. Tons of rumors going around, nobody was taking it seriously.

Then we got to class, and we heard more details. One of my classmates went home early. I remember we didnt do anything. I think maybe the radio was left on and we just kind of listened.

One of my teachers went on a long speech about why this was important. I dont remember what he said but ir emember the moment.

Going home, everyone was kind of mocking the terrorists, pretty confident they would be taken out.

Got home, went online to see everyone worried.

Mom got home, she seemed paranoid.

It was a really dark and surreal day. I still look back on it and remember the weather, the feelings, the people, the conversations..

Then the next few days was everyone in war frenzy or totally against it.

I was in 5th grade. Every after school event got canceled on the intercom. When I got home, I saw the Pentagon on fire, and then a shot of a plane flying into the second tower. My school decided that we didn't need to see or hear about it.

The next day, my psychotic teacher decided that we didn't even need to talk about it because it was too violent for kids and banned any discussion of it instead of trying to calm some students down. Great person in general, not just because of that either.

I was 27 and in college. I didn't have classes that day, so I slept it. My friend woke me with a phone call after the reports on everything that got hit. I said to him, "is it as bad as it sounds?" Because to me, in my sleepy state, it sounded impossible, like something out of a comic book. He said go turn on the TV. And there it was. Watched the news for weeks after that. I did go to class the next day. My Astronomy prof. gave a brief statement about don't be scared because that's what they way, the terrorists. My Philosophy prof. asked us to take a moment of silence before class began, then we went on with the lesson. And my English prof. Put up the number to red cross on the board and we had an open, honest, and frank discussion about what happened and how we felt.

I was in tenth grade. Didnt really find out what was going on until I got home. I knew something bad happened and that was about the extent of it. Something bad in New York City.

Glad to know even third graders knew more than I did. Thanks High School decision makers.

I remember when I got home and I was watching it on tv with my Mom and I remember each channel was showing the coverage. Every single channel was over taken by its parent company.

Im grateful I was old enough to comprehend just what was happening. Even as someone who only lived in a neighboring state, 9/11 had me shook for several years. The fear of draft being implemented again was constantly on peoples minds.

Never forget means never forget. I watch the footage of the attack each year so I will never take my life for granted. So I will never forget how horrible it was. So I can keep it in perspective. So I can respect the heroes that died that day. So I will never forget the pieces of trash that did this.

These topics always make me feel old... >_>

Anyway it was the first September after I graduated high school. My college courses didn't start for a couple more weeks, and I didn't go into work until late afternoon, so I was asleep and my dad came into my room to tell me a plane hit the WTC, and then he went to bed (he worked third shift back then), and my mom was already gone for the day. I didn't think that much of it, but was awake then and had always kind of been a news junky so got up and was watching the coverage. I just assumed--and it seemed the prevailing opinion on TV--was that it was just either an accident or maybe a suicide, but they thought it was just a small prop plane initially until more detailed reports started coming in. I guess it was hard to tell with the scale of the towers. I remember it didn't seem to look like *too* bad of damage.

And then the second plane hit and it became pretty obvious what was going on. I remember there was lots of false alarms about planes going here and there that never panned out, and I think at first they thought a missile had hit the pentagon or something.

It wasn't on the station I was watching at the time, but a few years ago I was watching random news feeds from the day, and I think it was CNN, the main anchor on the air was really harping on "Wow! These radars must be malfunctioning and causing these planes to crash!" and some pilot expert or whatever was on the phone with him like, "uh, no... they would be able to look out the window and see the towers..." ...I guess its hard to say that it was "funny" but I dunno, the dude was really set on the radars malfunctioning. >_>

I was a 5th grader in PE class. Despite being pretty bright for a 10 year old, I actually didn't know what the World Trade Center was, so I assumed it was the New York Stock Exchange, because I remembered that from Simcity 3000. Then I made jokes about zombie Hitler trying to crash the US economy by destroying what I assumed was the NYSE. It sounded really edgy and sophisticated to me at the time.

I was at college, in bed sleeping late. I didn't have a class that day until 11:30. I was up and on GameFAQs in time to know about it, turn on the TV, then watch the Towers collapse. Oddly, there is actual documented GameFAQs evidence to attest to that.

I kept myself occupied watching the boards (I was a mod at this point). It gave me something to do rather than dwell on the uncertainty. I made sure to call my folks, as well.

I went to class all the same. It was Japanese. My teacher was a Japanese national and she didn't know what the fuck to make out of it, so we went through class as best we could, trying to carry on.

Well, CE wasn't the political hotbed it is these days. If I recall it was mostly shock and disbelief and wondering what this would all mean for the future. Some of us were keeping track of people in NYC. Others were trying to figure what Bush would do as a result.

At the time, joking about the attack and the people who died was pretty much an immediate suspend/ban.

Some of the more popular game boards were talking about the attacks, too.

Hubby and I were going to drive up to see my older brother and when I woke up to the radio alarm, that's what I woke up to. Turned on the TV etc. Woke hubby up to tell him what was going on.

While shocking, being in California, it was all rather distant and far away, if you know what I mean, so we all still went out for pizza and had a nice social visit. Does that make us bad people. >.>

None of us had cellphones/wi-fi etc at the time so we just checked the TV once in a while the rest of the day. Once at home I had it on the entire time but...yeah. It was all pretty surreal.
