I would implore you to do some research into what the US Department of Defense actually achieves in a global scale with international partners on a daily basis, instead of just relying on this vary limited and ignorant perspective that it's all about "the war in the Middle East".

Well, again, you're basing your entire perspective off of large scale and highly publicized wars, whereas the military is employed in a very, very wide range of non-combat missions around the world.

Good thing it's been a thing for almost four times that long. The first holiday that would eventually be amalgamated into Memorial Day was first celebrated in 1868.

If a murderer worked for a charity company for a living he's still a murderer

This is just not true. That isn't to say that the U.S. military and other special ops haven't fucked up, but as a whole, this is just not true.

20 million people have died thanks to our military since WW2.

Meaning for about 80 years we've killed about a quarter of a million people of countries we've supposedly been saving.

There's about a million people in service at any given time.

Meaning about a quarter of them are murderers.

I'm not okay with a quarter of any industry being murderers

We're not counting WW2 in my statistics. Every "war" the military has engaged on afterwards to me is not an act of defense but jingoistic attacks on sovereign countries.

You're still not correct.

The soldiers on the ground do not get to decide who they have to fight. Yes, the U.S. has gotten into conflicts for the wrong reasons sometimes, but that does NOT make the soldier a murder.

Blind patriotism does not excuse being a murderer, sorry. Believing in your country but not in their cause to me is sacrificing your moral duty as a human being for your country, which is disgusting all the same

I'm not patriotic at all. If anything I have way more Texas pride.

But now you are deflecting, this isn't about patriotism. You are trying to say that a grunt is a murder, which has nothing to do with patriotism. If you want to get bent out of shape about what the U.S. military does, then get pissed off at the top of the food chain, not the guy pulling the trigger. It does NOT make him a murderer.

Ok?

Except it is. Excusing the actions of an entity BECAUSE of patriotism is exactly how "innocent grunts" excused the behavior of Nazis

On the grunt level, killing people is often justified because if they don't kill, they get killed. In the time period you gave there has been conscription so you had people who didn't even want to be in the military having to kill. You also end up in situations where someone joins in a time of relative peace to help them accomplish life goals, but then stuff happens and now they are in a warzone.

Let's back up for a few minutes. So you are trying to say that the poor sap that was drafted into the Vietnam war and had to shoot back at someone who was trying to kill him, is actually a murderer?

That is just not correct.
