A Georgia Jury has awarded an eye popping 1 BILLION verdict against a security company because of an employee of theirs was convicted of raping a 14 y/o girl!!

Hope Cheston was outside some picnic tables with her boyfriend during a party in 2012 when an armed security guard approached and told the boyfriend not to move and raped Hope!!

The guard, identified as Brandon Lamar Zachary was convicted of stat rape and is serving a 20 year prison sentence

The mother, Renatta Cheston Thornton filed the lawsuit on behalf of her daughter as the jury handed down the verdict against Crime Prevention Agency.

Zachary was 22 at the time as she said he should have never been hired because he wasn't licensed to be an armed guard

The judge already determined the company was liable so the jury determined the damages..which they came up with the 1 billion figure!!

Minors who were raped aren't normally identified by Hope gave her permission to be identified and is now 20 and a full time college student who works with an organization that helps homeless people.

She says a lot of women who suffer sexual assault don't pursue justice, choosing to instead put it behind them but she wanted to show that people do care about the worth of a woman

The prosecutor was shocked by the number as there is no basis in the legal world for how high a rape verdict can be as verdicts in the tens of millions of dollars or even hundreds of millions are not uncommon but a billion for a single victim is unheard of

Don't really get the liability there, but I assume it comes down to some specific state law. In general, the whole story is weird if, as Ducky describes, a guard just wandered over and raped a girl out of the blue at a party in front of her boyfriend and presumably others.

As for the billion dollars, that's apparently not happening because the company isn't even worth that much.

idk. I could understand if it was a teacher and they didn't do a background check that turned up the guy was arrested for sexual assault in the past, but this negligence is supposedly based just on the fact the guy wasn't licensed. If he was a licensed rapist, would that make it better?
