Personally, I think all kids should have Hyphenated Last names of their biological parents.

e.g.:
<Your Name> <Father/Mother>-<Father/Mother>

I mean only of your Immediate "Biological" parents, you WOULDN'T add in their parents or anything.

You would not include anything before that level of the Family tree.

Ergo consistently having either:
<Your Name> <Father-Mother> or <Your Name> <Mother-Father>
Whichever one sounds better.

That's what I meant by "<Your Name> <Father/Mother>-<Father/Mother>"

I didn't mean to keep including previous generations.

It was always meant to be a 3 name system.

Your potential future kids should have their last name be the first names of both the biological <Father's First Name-Mother's First Name> or <Mother's First Name - Father's First Name>

This. The kids either get my last name or hyphenated, end of story.

Otherwise, I don't really care.

Why?

it looks messy and can screw with official forms and procedures. I have a friend with a hyphenated last name and she missed her flight because her ticket didn't match her passport because of the way the airline handled it. and on half of her stuff they just cut the second part of her last name off anyway, so she might as well have just had her dads last name
it's all minor issues and she wasn't screwed over constantly, but it did happen until she got married and took a simple last name and suddenly these problems went away and she never had to worry about how the hyphen would interact with a database or wondering if it would fit in a standardized form

it's just a load of bother. last names aren't important to me, so the idea of compromising so you share each others name or your kids have both of your names is absurd to me
plus what happens if they marry someone else who does that, they're gonna have 4 last names with hyphens? it'd be so tacky

obviously you do you, I don't really "judge the fuck out of people" but it's not really for me. I have two middle names and I hate that I constantly am having to pick just one for forms and the like
my wife is venezuelan and so technically she has a bunch of last names, but legally she is only FirstName MiddleName LastName
