I'd say its an acquired taste.

I'm enjoying a Two Roads Persian Lime Gose right now. No bitterness, just silky sourness. Got a 4-pack of Boulevard bourbon-barrel aged Quadrupels in the fridge, along with a Left Hand Nitro Porter and a Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher(that last one is actually a little bitter, but the right amount of bitter, IMO).

Doppelbocks are fucking heaven, and plenty of dunkel lagers are quite palatable, Some ales are even good, provided they focus on a flavor other than face-melting bitterness.

The western world is beer crazy right now, if you still can't find good beer then you suck, not beer.

Wine doesn't go well with comfort foods IMO. Stuff like hamburgers, pizza, or BBQ is much much better with a good beer.

The head on Guinness is perfect. It's dense and weighty and warm. The drink tastes like coffee, and chocolate. And Guinness ain't even the best stout.

I like dark heavy stuff, but that's not for everyone. Really the key is only drinking things you actually enjoy drinking.

The only time Guinness is good is when it's in a Crown Float.

Used to be very meh on beer when I was younger and mostly drank keg beer and 40 oz stuff. Got older and now I'm real into going to local breweries. I really only see a point in drinking the higher end beers. It can be expensive at breweries though. Like around $6-8 for a 12 ounce. You can grab a 12 pack of the exact same beer for $15 at liquor stores. It's pretty crazy how big of a price difference there is for the exact same stuff from a different place.

All alcohol sucks from a taste perspective. Literally everything from a wine cooler up to Everclear or in between. Nobody would choose to drink any of it if it wasn't for the effects of alcohol itself.

I'd object that too, because there are so many types of alcohol and so many drinking experiences. Yes, maybe you don't chug alcoholic drinks like juice or something, but we don't do that with coffee or tea either. It's all very contextual. What kind of experience do you want? And what, if anything, are you eating with it?

A crisp pinot gris paired with something creamy or a little cheesy is the perfect combination. The acidity of the wine cuts through the salt of the meal to refresh you palette between bites. And the salt of the dish takes the understated sweetness of the wine and really makes it blossom.

Then there's the mouthfeel of a lot of these drinks. Beyond the sparkling or carbonated drinks, there's the thickness of the drink, or the way a swallow of good tequilla seems to vapor off the tongue like ether while a low heat kind of lingers in your diaphragm.

There are so many ways to enjoy what we eat or drink, to narrow it down exclusively to taste feels kind of like missing out. There are so many experiences out there in the world of alcohol beyond just drunkenness.

Im not sure about that, everything Ive been around had the same horrid smell to it regardless of the type of alcohol or the supposed quality.

I'm actually going to agree with TC. I can't stand the taste of Beer. I guess I have the Tyrone Magnus drinking mentality. Fruity drinks remind you of your childhood and they taste great? sign me up.

I've tried a lot of beer, and none of them sit well with me. Stuff like Whiskey Sour, Sour Puss, Black Cherry Lemonade and Vodka Coolers just make me want to drink more and more. Beer makes me want to throw it away. The only time I'll ever have beer in my home is if I'm deep frying as I use it for batter.

I agree with you on the mixed drinks part. Generally speaking, I do prefer cocktails. But I recommend finding some local shithole brewery and trying some of their gimmicky stuff.

Beer is generally filler and feels like it, but local breweries are really common now and they have some extremely unique flavors these days.

Beer has the benefit of being able to just grab a bottle and being ready to drink though. I don't like going through the process of making a cocktail, though the payout is definitely better. *sips white russian*

for me it always boils down to the aftertaste. I can't stand the aftertaste of beer. I can get over the initial taste, its just the shit that lingers afterwards that leaves a horrible taste in my mouth(figuratively and literally). I'm always up for being proven wrong, but I don't drink much to begin with. A bottle of Sambuca might last me 4-5 months.

I bring what I want to drink to parties because I'm old, I know what I want, and I know the host probably doesn't have it. I'm always down to share or exchange, but as a general rule every party favor I bring is something I know I'll enjoy even if no one else does.

In the tropics people always put ice in the beer. I had actually grown accustomed to it. Warm beer is 10x worse tasting than cold beer and if it gets warm I won't touch it. The ice keeps it drinkable for me at least.

Nah, I don't give a shit about "manliness". I can down beer, I think it tastes like meh pumpkin seeds or piss (IPA) usually, but I can still do it. Only beer I've enjoyed so far is sour beer. I like cider and harder stuff like whiskey, especially cocktails, much more.

I don't mind beer at all.

Problem is I don't drink just for the sake of being social - if I'm drinking I want to feel something. And that doesn't happen with beer unless I drink, like, four of them at a minimum. Not even overweight, nor do I drink enough to have developed a strong tolerance - I just rolled badly on alcohol tolerance.

I'd rather do something stronger.
