Tax payers shouldnt pay for either. Encouraging single motherhood by subsidizing it leads to greater crime and economic dysfunction.

What evidence do you have for this?

The areas with the highest unwanted teen pregnancy are right wing with strict abortion and anti sex ed laws.

And the parts of Africa where Catholics enforced strict anti-abortion and anti-sex ideals were utterly catastrophic in terms of the damage they did economically, health wise, crimewise.

One of the biggest arguments for abortion period is that pretty much every society that embraces it ends up better off than societies that condem it.

Single motherhood rates exploded since LBJs Great Society. You know why subsidizing single motherhood leads to more of it. Replace single motherhood with clean energy companies.

What? When did single motherhood have anything to do with the subject at hand? Sex ed, abortion, and contraception are the best ways in reducing unwanted pregnancy, thereby also reducing single motherhood as well.

The above comment thread started as a response to the standard leftist threat of, "if the government doesn't pay for my birth control and abortions, and has to pay for my welfare when I have kids I can't pay for." I'm saying that tax payers shouldn't be on the hook for any of the above.

I mean, 6 weeks isn't even necessarily enough time for someone to find out they're pregnant unless they're super cautious. That's only like one missed period, which just happens sometimes regardless. To some more than others.

My wife and I recently decided we wanted to have a kid. Her pregnancy test was positive 13 days later.

I cant speak for everyone, but a lot of my benevolence goes to things like giving food to those in need rather than using any formal charity. I also give to formal religious charities which do things like help young women get off drugs. What do you do with your money?

As someone who was adopted from an unknown mother, Im never sure what my position should be on abortion. In my head it sounds fair to say women should have the right to choose (although the line where that is drawn is kind of a gray area) but ethically I have to reflect on my own background and weigh that against it.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Friday signed off on a law banning most abortions if a fetal heartbeat can be detected, or at about six weeks of pregnancy, The Associated Press reported.

The restriction is the strictest abortion regulation in the nation, the AP said. It also said passage and enactment of the measure has set the state up for a protracted legal fight.

The State House passed the legislation on Tuesday night with a 51-46 vote, Iowa Public Radio reported. It was debated for more than eight hours before House representatives decided on it. The bill passed the Senate early Wednesday with a 27-19 vote.

The legislation bans abortion in all cases after six weeks of pregnancy, which critics of the legislation argue is before most women are aware they are pregnant. Up until now, a woman has been able to get an abortion in Iowa up to her 20th week.

However, the measure would not ban abortion after six weeks in all cases -- some exemptions include instances of rape, incest, fetal abnormalities or to save the mothers life.

I'll never understand this bullshit appeal to emotion. No, it doesn't influence my opinion because if I was an aborted fetus, I necessarily wouldn't know what I was missing. And this is coming from someone with a generally good and fulfilling life.
