Yeah, that's not how the law works.

Not answering the detectives phone calls or not marching right up to the police station is exercising your fifth amendment rights. (That's the one that says you don't have to say anything)

But actually nah, you should definitely go. Sign whatever he puts in front of you.

I'm not leaving but I'm not going to admit to lying because that's basically giving them permission to slap the cuffs on me if they want to.

Do I really think that they're going to say "aw you lied but you owned up to it! We respect you. You're off the hook man have a beautiful day." No. I don't. It's gonna be "well we got you red handed. Take your sentence." That's much more likely to happen. It's his job and he would have me red handed. He wouldn't just let me go.

Yeah sure.

1) some lady from works accuses him of making threats and files report with police department
2) detective says "hey OP come by the station and sign a few things, 10am tomorrow work for you?"
2) he signs paperwork saying he agrees to what he was accused of and the fine and/or jail time.

What interrogation??

Cop: We have complaints against you, did you make these comments online?
OP: No, my account must have been hacked into.
Cop: Oh can you make a statement about that then?
OP: *posts online about lying on gamefaqs*

TC literally covered up his immature but not criminal behavior with a made up crime by an imaginary perpetrator, and people are telling him to roll with that narrative xfd.

Lying was a bad move. your best bet is to just come clean and explain yourself. if you continue to lie its not going to look good when they find out it was you. Also digital forensics is real so if it really got to that point they can easily find out it was you with a warrant

I get it. I shouldn't have lied. But my question is what to do now. Not what I should have done. Unless you guys have a time machine.

Unless you can afford a lawyer or have lawyer friends you can run this by, it's best you

DoctorVader posted...
Stay quiet and let them come for you. They will provide you with a lawyer if they arrest you. Just stay quiet till a lawyer is with you. I highly doubt it will reach felony levels.

Pray that the detective is lazy and just moves on.

Essentially, if they have a case against you, let them act on it. And unless you have a lawyer, don't try to straighten things out. Remember, apologizing is an admission of guilt as well.

I would also post this on Reddit to get some input from actual lawyers that hang there.

In reality, what should happen is that the detective should be too lazy to subpoena Facebook for your IP and information. He will likely have nothing to arrest you for and close the case himself.

He might try visiting again, but just don't answer. Unless he's there with an arrest warrant, do not respond.

My logic isn't really absurd, you just aren't smart enough to comprehend that...

A detective came to this house, therefor the woman from work pressed charges against him.

Did OP post his chat logs?

If he signs a plea agreement, it still has him admit guilt. The coercion and deception from the police is a way that people who were wrongly imprisoned get in the system.
