You fucked up by answering the detective. It would have went away otherwise. He wants you to incriminate yourself.

Do not talk to the police without a lawyer again and don't give anymore statements. You fucked up by lying and while this seems like some misdemeanor harassment case, which just incurs fines, I have no idea what chip this detective might have on his shoulder or your town's corruption level or even laws.

Stay quiet and let them come for you. They will provide you with a lawyer if they arrest you. Just stay quiet till a lawyer is with you. I highly doubt it will reach felony levels.

Pray that the detective is lazy and just moves on.

The fact that she has an investigation going into you leads me to believe your texts were probably worse/more threatening than youre trying to make it seem.

Youve already proved youre dishonest, and would rather continue to dig a deeper hole than pull yourself out of it.

Just be a better person, dude.

Nope they weren't. I only said things like stupid bitch, (I don't have the messages anymore) and you're not as bad ass as you think you are, fucking dumbass. Stuff like that. I don't have a reason to lie here where none of you know me and I'm trying to get advice.

Well, first of all, even if that was it, that is no way an adult in the professional world should be talking with other people. Like what a dumb thing to do. And so she was so offended and scared that she called the police to look into you? Or perhaps her method of revenge. I dunno thats pretty strange.

But yea, stop fucking lying. Like at all. The fact you lied in first place shows that you know what ya did wasnt right. Stop lying. And to everyone you did lie to, set them straight.

Lies almost never help anything ever. They are for scared little ashamed people or evil manipulators. Lol

Essentially, if they have a case against you, let them act on it. And unless you have a lawyer, don't try to straighten things out. Remember, apologizing is an admission of guilt as well.

I would also post this on Reddit to get some input from actual lawyers that hang there.

In reality, what should happen is that the detective should be too lazy to subpoena Facebook for your IP and information. He will likely have nothing to arrest you for and close the case himself.

He might try visiting again, but just don't answer. Unless he's there with an arrest warrant, do not respond.

That's fine, but telling TC to do anything other than come clean immediately (and get a lawyer if possible) is setting him up for a much bigger fall.

One time I got caught outside drinking a gallon of vodka with my girlfriend at the time. She wasn't drunk but I was so wasted I kept calling the female cop sir. There was 3 cops. I called her sir 3 times and kept hiccuping. They asked me why I was drinking there and I told them that I can't drink where I live. They let me go and even let me take the vodka with me. That was surreal. I kept drinking at home.

Idk why they let me go. And even let me take the vodka too.

Just scanned the op and havent read all your follow up posts but Im not gonna berate you over the past at least. Did you say youd come in tomorrow? Hopefully you didnt get specific and agree to a certain time. Either way, I think youre in lawyer territory. Lying to a detective making an impromptu home visit months after an incident is one thing but doesnt hold much if any weight in court without a follow up written statement or (more likely today) a filmed interview session. If youre being truthful about your predicament, I do think a decent lawyer could deal with this situation fairly easily, great lawyers can get you out of exponentially bigger shitstorms than this so dont forget that. Its one of those circumstances where money spent right on legal counsel should be the fix. Also would help if that woman you worked with is a bad witness in person...but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. When I say all that I just mean as a precaution.

See and I was gonna call the guy and admit I lied but now I'm not going to. They will just use that against me. I made a dumbass mistake by lying but it's too late to change that and admitting to crime doesn't make sense.

I'm usually intelligent but when it comes to crime and law I'm a total dumbass. I've never had to worry or think about stuff like this. I have always been a good kid/guy.

Depends on your state and laws. Some states don't require consent between both parties to record a conversation, just one. That said if he told you "this call might be recorded, etc" sometime during the call this satisfies the agreement too seeing as he told you and you said anything to him.

Also for what it's worth the detective is a cop so I'd stop talking to him and don't answer his calls. Not sure if you knew that lol.

If he really needs to talk to you he'll show up at your door with a court summons/subpoena.

TC has no idea what the investigation is about or what his supposed role is in it or what the accusations are being levied against him.

You're advocating betting it all on red... Maybe it'll work out, who knows. Why take that risk and live with the stress.

Lol. I'm astonished. Jesus wept.

1st paragraph: yeah exactly, thats why he shouldn't say anything. From info given he doesn't have a court date yet so let's not get it there. Admitting to sending those messages could be taken as threats so ironic you say "why take that risk" I'm speechless.

I'm not betting it all on red. OP is digging his own grave. He could have never let it escalate to this way back at work or made different choices all together but that's said and done.

If you have to go in and sign something it's usually because you're getting arrested

Like he's signing he agrees to charges against him and to pay a fine, or schedule a court date.

You have a clean record and your charge is threats over the internet...

Worst comes to worse they'll knock on your door and give a court summons to whoever answers. You have time to get a lawyer and go to court (hell you prob don't even have to go just your lawyer lol). If you miss the court date you'll have a warrant for your arrest and that's when they can arrest you onsite say if they pull you over or stop you for any other reason and pull up your record when you hand them your ID.
