I already regret what I did but a woman was bullying me in the workplace so when I quit and got home I told her off on Facebook. I cussed at her but I threatened no bodily harm. I just told her she was a piece of shit and not as bad ass as she thinks she is. She was talking shit to me in person when the bosses weren't around when I was talking a customer on the phone. Nobody heard her though.

So it was a Thursday and the next day was pay day. This is where I messed up. I messaged her and said I was going to show up and get my check and I must have said something like "Let's see how bad ass you are now that I can talk shit back and defend myself in person." I didn't mean it in the sense that I was going to physically attack her. Absolutely not. But I was in a rage and I just wanted to tell her off. But anyway I get a call from the boss and he says I'm no longer allowed on the premises. Someone from corporate calls me and asks me if I sent her threatening messages and I lied and said that I don't have a Facebook and that I have no idea who it could be. They asked if I have a grudge against anyone and I said no. She sent them transcripts of our chat but I denied that it was me. They say okay. They mail me my check.

That was almost two months ago now. I haven't messaged her on Facebook at all or anybody. In fact I stopped using that account (which didn't have my real first or last name but did have pictures of me.) It's probably really obvious that it was me but since I already lied and said it wasn't me I'm sticking with that because I obviously don't want to change my story.

A few days ago a detective came and left his business card on my door. I called him and he explained that he was investigating this case and asked me if I had a grudge or if I sent those messages to her and I said no. I'm pretty much pretending that it was an imposter. I know it was probably dumb but I didn't want to just say "yeah I did do that." This is what he said "Okay well if I can just have you come in and give a written statement I can go ahead and just close the case." I told him I definitely wanted to do that and that I'd show up Thursday morning. Thursday is tomorrow but I don't think I'm going. I don't think he's actually going to close the case. He probably wants me to incriminate myself.

So can I just ignore him now? Can I get arrested? It's been two months and I haven't said anything to anybody. But I can't rest knowing that they'll come and take me away. I don't want anything to happen to my record because it's clean. So idk. I know I shouldn't have talked shit but she was a massive bitch to me for no reason. What if they get me for lying to a police officer and also harassment?

It's so stupid that I talked shit to her one time because she deserved it after talking shit to me at the actual job (I did tell the boss but he didn't do shit. He's a moron and has favorites.) And when I talk shit she takes the pussy way out and runs to the authorities. Whatever.

I just want to move on with my life but now I might get arrested.

LMFAO

Edit: Okay, now that I've read the rest of the post, you have played this so, so badly. How old are you? Jesus man. How hard would it have been for you to say yes I abused her but it was because she was a bitch, I apologise for being unprofessional and was just letting off steam? I meant no harm etc.

Now you've got yourself in this big web of lies and there's a DETECTIVE investigating? You could have resolved this the very next day.

Or, you know, like an adult and approached her professionally. If you were uncomfortable doing that, going to HR.

What is wrong with you?

Uh... definitely one of those instances where you should have just told the truth, especially if the messages weren't all that bad as you're claiming.

Lying is going to make it worse for yourself.

In fact it's not too late to just tell them you panicked but want to take responsibility for it. And then just explain the situation.

Look, they have the chat logs that showed what you said.

If you lie to the police and they catch you in that lie, then that already paints you as having no integrity and could imply that you have more to hide.

If you tell the truth to the police and explain you were freaked out which is why you lied about it to begin with, then it shows that you have some sense of what right is.

Based on OP, you did nothing wrong. Lying about doing nothing wrong to the police is suspicious as all hell and if you make a statement attesting to the fact that you did nothing to do nothing wrong then you're committing a crime.

You're literally turning something that wasn't a crime into something that is a crime because you're too afraid to own up to a temporary loss in judgment online.

Nah I definitely never said "I'll kill you" or "I'll fuck you up" I don't threaten anyone that way. I get mad at people but even in my maddest moments I only insult the character of a person.

What I'm wondering is why did this guy take on this case? Is he legally required to? Was he paid to? Like there's more important shit out there lol. Also idk if corporate called him to investigate or if she did. Pretty sure it was her.

Because like I said, admitting to it now and admitting it was an error in judgment to not confess to it earlier is a more mature and respectable response than not admitting to it at all and hoping they never figure out you lied.

Hmm. Google fu tells me you might actually be in a bit of trouble. Link:

https://www.shouselaw.com/criminal_threats.html

Quote from said link:

Examples of conduct leading to a criminal threats charge include (but are by no means limited to):

threatening to shoot another person while you are holding a gun,
a recently fired employee calling the former boss and saying "you and the office staff better watch your backs,"
texting your ex that you're going to set fire to her apartment.

I guess even vaguely threatening statements that aren't direct threats can get you in trouble if charges are pressed. In California at least. No idea where you're at.

This isn't bad advice, either, based quite a bit on the fact that they are investigating it for some reason to begin with. I would be curious to know what she said to them.

Or who knows, maybe she herself did something crazy and the cops are investigating that and they came across your chat logs and are wondering what the connection is, or they want to use you as a character witness.

This. Talk to the police and or get a lawyer (not sure how it works in your country). Dont sign anything from someone who is hired against you. Tell the truth to the police and im guessing this will be over pretty quickly. As others pointed out, the worst thing you did was lie -if what you are telling is the truth
