When I worked in restaurants I remember regulars having preferred seats. If the seats were empty, we'd give it to them.

I cant imagine ever asking a customer to get up and move to a different seat because somebody else wants it though. No regular is worth that awkwardness.

Though the couple hadnt even ordered yet, so I'd also say theyre being ridiculous for escalating such a non-issue to this point. Should have just left the restaurant and told everybody what a shitty manager it has. No restaurant is worth that, either. >_>

relocating customers once they've been seated, for any reason short of the customers requesting such or some safety hazard or other unanticipated inconvenience with respect to where they've been seated, is textbook bad business

racism? probably, or perhaps not, but with utmost certainty it is a serious lapse of competence with respect to management

Obviously dumb from a customer service perspective, but I don't see why people would think race played a factor.

The manager already did something stupid and worthy of criticism. You don't need to come up with make believe racism unless you just love having an excuse to be outraged.

They are ridiculous for escalating and not the person that called the police over this issue that shouldnt have even been an issue in the first place because the manager should have never asked them to do such a ridiculous thing?

I never said they did. But let me illustrate my point.

You have just exposed yourself to being as worthy of effort as that manager. In this situation, this is what you do:

What evidence is there that it was racism? Lots of people get bad customer service every single day, but all of a sudden when it happens to a black person it must be racism.

The restaurant gave a half apology and didn't even mention what they chose to do with the manger either...

Racism or not I hope that manager was fired.

The manager should be fired for the I dont like you response alone. Regardless of what went on before they started filming, thats never an acceptable response to your customers.

Buts as far as the racial spin that they are trying to put on it, making it seem like a Rosa Parks situation, give me a break.

Im sorry. Why would you give your money to a shitty reataurant run by a shitty manager who would do shitty things? Thats when you realize the restaurant isnt worth your time, and you go literally anywhere else.

Its astounding, the level of intelligence people must have, to read a post calling the manager crappy, and then take an off-hand non-jab about customers, which also revolves around the premise of the manager being crappy, and assume:

A) that I actually feel the customers are at any significant level of fault beyond "why would you do that?"

And

B) having established my history in restaurants, that my criticism is based on their race and not having seen countless customers and the poor way they handle things.

Congratulations.

yeah i agree, the i don't like you response was shit, just give the guy a reason why you're throwing him out. Is this restaurant a chain? i've never heard of it.

You realize that youre pretty much advocating that they, at best, comply with stupidity and at worst comply with stupidity mixed with racism and other potential discriminatory factors. Not sure thats the best option here. They were paying customers, they had a right to sit where they were sitting, the manager is 100% in the wrong here.

Youre reading far too deeply into a comment that wasnt a condemnation (my fault for using "ridiculous" so flippantly), but bewilderment at why anyone would waste their energy on somebody who clearly isnt worth it, for a chance to give them money, when the alternative of "spend your money elsewhere and tell everyone you know" has the same result with less headache.

I apologize if I implied the customers did something that justified that behavior against them.

I doubt the manager knew they were black. He was probably told by the staff there was a couple refusing to move for a regular so he went out to handle it. The motivational guy is race baiting.
