I haven't had anywhere near the time to play it that I have but I'm enjoying it a ton so far. The new engine is pretty mindblowing after the rest of the 13-year-old series using the same engine - the seamless world/combat is espeically outstanding. Definitely rough around the edges, but if you think of it as the Yakuza 1 for the next generation it gets me crazy hyped for what we'll be seeing in future games.

Chapter 3 spoilers: Playing a mini-game to soothe Haruto while making a mad dash around town for milk is the most Yakuza thing ever and I fucking love it.

Love this game! It's really hitting the spot for me, so cool having many of them hit the West in the past year and a half.

In the past few months I played 0, Kiwami, and 5 in preparation (didn't finish 5 but really enjoyed it), and watched a bunch of videos and whatnot of 3 and 4 as well. Also pumped for Kiwami 2 and Hokuto!

Yakuza 6 is for sure the best game released in some time, and needs more love and attention from the press and whatnot. Though I do like that it's getting more marketing and buzz than the series had back in the day it seems.

The only thing more crazy to me than Kiwami 2 coming out in only 4 months is the fact that we'll be fully caught up with Japan after that. Considering this series was nearly dead and several years behind in the west at one point, I seriously never imagined it would catch up, let alone become as popular as it has.

All aboard the Shin Yakuza hype train! It'll be wild to see what they accomplish there after having two games to warm up with the new engine.

For sure, Shin sounds like it'll be great stuff. From the little bits we've seen of the protagonist, reminds me a little bit of what they went for with Akiyama in 4. That he's kind of a laidback slick guy, pretty different from the selfless legendary Kiryu. They've got a lot of room to really mix up the narrative formula.

What do you think they'll call it over here, probably New Yakuza? Or think up something cooler? Shin Yakuza works too.

I also think Yakuza 6 feels like a bigger jump than 2 to 3.

The PS3 games and 0 kept the same map and general look. This one revamps everything. Theatre Square looks very different.

Finally reached Hiroshima.

In Yakuza 5, Fukuoka's portrayal didn't quite capture the feel of the city, but I let that slide, because they were adding so much location content. Tokyo/Osaka's districtrs were always the priority, but with Hiroshima here, it does capture some of the atmosphere a lot better.

Just unlocked spearfishing and the clan creator. As usual, the Yakuza team goes balls to the wall with their mini-games! I'm actually enjoying this game way more than I expected to considering the harsh reaction upon its JP release... though I definitely admit there have been some major headscratchers with the main scenario's writing already.

Taking back what I said about the Hiroshima location. Didn't like it because there was nothing to do but I forgot about baseball and didn't end up accessing spearfishing and making friends at the bar until around Chapter 10.

I really like Hiroshima, spear fishing might be my favorite Yakuza minigame yet and the coastal setting and narrow streets remind me enough of Okinawa enough to make me nostalgic for my childhood.

Did everyone open the chest on the roof of New Serena? Requires a code that's over in the cheats section on the game board, not sure where you actually acquire said code otherwise. Don't think it's in game as it doesn't have a key like the other chests.1 million yen and a Rainbow Bun (500 exp to all colors) which would have been insanely useful early on. The yen's great at any time though!

Spearfishing girl seems to be a reference to amachan.

Beat the main story. I can see why this game didn't get as good a reception compared to other games but even then I still liked it a bunch. It reminded me a bit of 3 but unlike that game, this game's story kept going whereas 3's story ended right as it got interesting.
