and holy shit of course he's Loki. Makes a lot of sense in retrospect (extremely smart, half-giant) and looking into general Norse lore I think I'm really starting to get a grasp on where the story is all going.

I think Kratos 100% dies next game, maybe even early on, because this is really going to be the story of Loki (funny enough it won't be about the god of war anymore) causing Ragnarok, becoming an enemy of Odin/Freya/Thor/Heimdall and ultimately going all God of War III on their ass. Curious if it'll promote Kratos as the main character or if Atreus will take over? I think Atreus is too young as is, but at the same time it said Ragnarok is really close because of Baldur's death, so he might not be old enough to be the main playable character by the time Rangarok hits?

The fight with Baldur was awesome though the end was a little anticlimactic (aside from the Loki reveal). The story seemed unusually close-knit for a God of War game (small main cast, and very few supporting characters outside the main cast).

Definitely an excellent game and there's a good chance it'll end up being my game of the year, but I still hold God of War III as the best game in the series so far.

Keep playing, there's some more dialogue that pops up.

They kind of allude to the fact that Kratos has changed things and started Ragnarok earlier than expected. Can't imagine they kill off Kratos, since it's now both him and Loki that will be bringing it about, because 'they've changed things'

That is actually the exact point. I have to say, it doesn't help that the two weakest parts of the game, Alfheim and Inside the Mountain are right next to each other, though at least the latter is better than the former so you get a steady rise in quality.

eh, I found the alfheim storyline to be interesting enough, though I felt they definitely could've done more with it. The elf communities were our best chance of being amongst an actual group of beings, but alas, the game wanted a more solitary adventure.

Took her on second. I just got access to 2 way travel so I'm going through all the areas getting everything now. I feel maybe my gear isn't good enough yet for these fights but whatever ended up fighting her for like an hour until I beat her.

I finally got to the point where I have better fast travel, so I'm excited to go around and find more things I couldn't get to before. I also went and fought the Valkyrie near Thamur, and yeah she is definitely meant to be fought first.

Alright, so I've started this. Liking the exploration and combat. Surprised by the amount of RPG stuff and hidden items in the environment. The Stranger was quite cool. It was like Yakuza meets DBZ.

Yes I hit the same spot and then traded it into Gamestop yesterday. Extra 30% toward Hyrule Warriors! 9/10 game but I didn't see myself playing anymore.

Well, I just beat the Muspelheim and Niflheim Valkyries last night, so I'll tell you how the Queen goes on Challenge difficulty at least.

Also, I'm glad I've still got story to do when I finish the sidequests, because Niflheim would be a really awful thing to end an otherwise great game on.

Seriously, by far the low point in an otherwise amazing game

Hoping that stuff like Muspelheim and Niflheim were like them throwing a bunch of ideas in to see what works and what doesn't with the new franchise, so in the next game Niflheim isnt presented that way

Yeah Nilfheim was a really half-assed attempt at an "endless dungeon". They should have just taken Bloody Palace from DMC if they wanted to do endless combat.

It wouldn't have been surprising if they effectively made a new character named Kratos who comes across as a far nicer person. Instead we have a cold, violent, embittered man who's really trying to be a decent father.

You know what might've been interesting?

Ditch the name God of War. Keep Kratos' tattoos and arms hidden under heavy coat/armor/etc. Make him look like a gritty but primarily Norse figure. The new voice actor probably could've sold it.

Then have the Blades reveal.

Not saying it'd be better but it'd be a hell of a twist!
