https://qz.com/1255335/paid-time-off-workers-in-the-us-with-the-highest-salaries-also-get-the-most-paid-vacation/

People with higher salaries get more paid days off, reports Quartz. Nearly half the people in the top 25 percent of earners received at least 10 days of paid vacation. Only one-tenth of the bottom 25 percent, however, got this amount of time off. The polarity does not bode well in an era of growing divergence between the rich and the poor, Quartz said. Unlike in the EU, where companies are obliged to give workers a minimum of 20 vacation days, the legal minimum in the US is 0."

Rampant rest inequality.

Talk to anyone who gets 3+ weeks PTO and tell me when you find one that actually has the free time to use it. Most of my co-workers have 300+ hours built up because of rollover that they'll never use because they've got too much to do.

Regardless of how high or low my salary would look to you, I don't use all of my PTO anyway. And sometimes I have to work on vacation. The same goes for people who make much more money than I do.

Usually the higher up you are the less work you do too. Of course it depends on the company, but it's pretty much the case in most corporate settings.

I make a good amount and I take my PTO. It's important to have downtime so you don't burn out or get health issues.

This

At my job you start with two weeks a year, then two years later you get three weeks a year, then three years later you get four weeks a year.

If you work somewhere for five years and don't earn more than you did five years ago you're doing it wrong

And their countries are a lot poorer than ours.

Look at places like Venezuela. I think they had like 100 days a year off. Why not do that?

You mean to say people who climb the ladders usually investing a large amount of years to a company get more vacation? I'm utterly shocked.

A lot of people are missing the point. It's not about seniority. It's that a lot of lower paying jobs offer little to no paid time off, no matter how long they've been at a company. And that's for all types of time, including sick time.

The point is that why should these things be available only to some people and not everyone? Just because historically that's the way we've done things doesn't mean it is right. PTO is not something that should be considered a luxury, same as health care.

at my job you get 12 sick days, 12 vacation days, and 3 Administrative Leave days at the beginning of the year, plus you earn a few hours every month (I think you get about a vacation and sick day every 2 months) and you can carry over 20 vacation days I believe.

It's a state agency so theres already enough days off in the year

Last year I got 116.25 hours between vacation and personal time.

I was working at the service desk in a grocery store, part time. I kid you not.

I get 21 days and 11 holidays. I'm definitely in the bottom 25 of earners at about 28k a year after bonuses. There is usually a small Christmas and small late spring or early summer bonus. Just my hourly rate is like 26k a year.

Every job I've ever worked at either gave vacation flat or accrual, and the longer with the company the more earned. I'm sure there are exception companies that don't offer it at all or only if the employee works full time, but the stat is skewed because many executives spend ages at one place.

But all that aside, so what if executives get better perks? Most low skill workers bitching about it would crumble if they had to make the same decisions, or sink the company.
