I'm in college so i work at starbucks part time.

These two black guys didn't order anything, so technically they were loitering at a privately owned business. I asked them to leave but they wouldn't.

I called the police and they were arrested and cited for trespass.

lesson of the day... it's a privately owned business, we reserve the right to not do business with anyone with or without reason. Since it's a privately owned business, if you don't leave(after being asked to do so), then the police will cite you for criminal trespass.

They didn't order anything and apparently they were waiting for their friend so it looks like they were loitering for a good amount of time. I usually give leeway to these type of things, but if you have no business being there, then don't loiter. We reserve those seats for actual customers.

privately owned business, staff reserves the right to refuse service or tell people to leave with or without reason. If you don't abide by these rules after being told to do so, then the police will cite you for trespassing.

privately traded/privately owned, it doesn't matter. It still fits under the private property umbrella.

I know this is a troll, but privately owned businesses do not have that right and can be in for a world of a shit if they pick and choose who to kick out for any reason. i don't need to give a reason to kick people out because it's still private property. If i suspect someone is a non paying customer, i don't need to give them any reason to kick them out. If they don't want to leave, then i will get the police to intervene.

them waiting for their friend before they intend to pay is not a valid excuse because the initial indication is that they were non paying customers to begin with. And even if it was a VALID excuse(them waiting for a friend), it doesn't matter at that point because as a staff member representing a privately owned business, i don't need to give ANY reasons at all for refusing service or for telling ppl to leave.

Loitering isn't allowed, deal with it

police can't just arrest someone without probable cause

chances are, they were probably asked to leave. Then they gave staff attitude, so staff called police and arrested them for criminal trespass

it's against the law to arrest ppl without probable cause. Someone called 9 11 on them because more often than not, they probably LOITERED and refused to leave after being asked to do so. NO chance someone called 911 just for the fact that they were black or because they were suspicious, because simply being "black" or "suspicious" isn't probable cause for an arrest.

99.99% sure it was loitering/criminal trespass.

fired for what? let due process take its course

obviously, starbucks does not want any form of controversy that may disparage their franchise. But it doesn't specifically addressed what really happened in that specific incident. That's why there is due process

those two black guys are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The employees told officers the two men wanted to use the restroom but were told the facilities are only for paying customers. The Starbucks employees then asked the men to leave, but they refused, Ross says.
Officers responded and asked the men three times to "politely to leave the location because they were being asked to leave by employees because they were trespassing." When the men again refused to leave, they were arrested "without incident," Ross says.
