Vocal minorities have often been driving force of less than favorable changes. It's only when the general populace react poorly to it that you can realize something is a vocal minority

And I also hate most "cinematic experiences". If I want that, I'll watch a $12 movie, not play a game >_> Games are for making your own path or having a jolly ol time just messing around with it

stuff like this is why BOTW was declared GOTY. 90% of it is pure gameplay, and not an interactive movie

What about Witcher 3 and Last of Us, though.

Witcher does have a lot of gameplay to it, but we know the story/sidequests is why.

I remember when Sony fanboys constantly s*** on Quantum Break because even though MS said it did well enough, it didn't make "Halo numbers"

As if every f***ing IP needs to be the biggest IP, right?

Quantum Break isn't getting a sequel despite ending with a cliffhanger. Same thing happened to Alan Wake.

The game is great but it didn't sell well at all.

I don't know why people are acting like it's dead easy to get a 95 metacritic. Have people forgotten The Order 1886 that quickly?

This game sounds way less scripted than I expected going by these reviews.

The reviews wouldn't matter if they were high OR low or middling because reviews by mainstream gaming sites are literally worthless. They pick some smuck from their list of D-list writers and have them play a game for three hours and then write a review to beat the other huge sites.

They've all had the game for at least a week and most reviewers seem to have finished the game.

Nobody could get a review out first because they had an embargo.

Also Sam Lake has confirmed that they're going to continue Alan Wake at some point.

Source for what? It didn't chart anywhere. Microsoft aren't working with Remedy anymore.

Microsoft or Remedy aren't going to make a statement that the game was a disappointment.

There's one Microsoft exec who's known to bullshit in the past who said it sold fine but not every game needs a sequel. So he's just on damage control over it.

Which again Quantum Break ended with a cliffhanger and a lot of loose ends.

Max Payne 2 didn't.

Alan Wake did and they intended to make a sequel which didn't work out because the game was a disappointment. Same thing happened with Quantum Break.

Now Remedy are working with other publishers.

Do you honestly think Remedy don't intend to follow this stuff up? Do you honestly think they didn't want to do Quantum Break 2 with Microsoft?

And Microsoft doesn't think a lot of things are worth doing, regardless of sales and stuff. Why else would they have cancelled nearly every exclusive they had in development for years?

For the longest time I was told it was because MS has no idea what they are doing, so why does that excuse not work here?

Also, has it ever once crossed your mind that the game could have been a success, but still not successful enough to continue going?

This is so fucking true and it's sad.

Making a video game more and more cinematic takes away from it's artistic integrity, it doesn't add to it.

That's why a game like Hotline Miami will always be 100x more artistic than the next flavor of the month, over the shoulder, daddy/mommy issues simulator.

Which would mean they don't think Quantum Break 2 would be successful. Probably because Quantum Break 1 wasn't successful for them. It's not a hard conclusion to reach. Sony reached the same one with The Order 1886.

Its not really the design of the worlds in these games. Its more like what Sony is trying to accomplish. Ever since the release of The Last of Us and the critical acclaim that followed, many of Sonys bigger and more advertised exclusives have been similar to The Last of Us. Emotional story that should be taken seriously? Check. Over the should camera view? Check. A companion that follows the protagonist throughout the journey? Check.

I wont knock them. If it aint broke, then dont fix it. I just wish we would see less of The Last of Us like games and more Bloodborne like games. Games that take risks instead of following a safe formula that proves to have worked.
