Lmao @ all the draft dodgers.

If the draft starts up, I won't wait for the draft. I will head over to the local US Army recruiting station and enlist.

Good for you. Have fun getting blown to bits by artillery

It's sad how this generation has no appreciation for those who sacrificed their lives for your freedom

As I said, if the US mainland was invaded I'd gladly defend the country. But I'm not signing myself up to go get blown to pieces in foreign soil.

That is very true. But it can be expanded until 45 if need be

It if the war happened on us soil you would be pretty low on the totem pole who they decided to save first.

It's stupid to wait until the mainland is invaded. That would result in lots of US civilian deaths.

This is WW3 we are talking about, not George W. Bush's Iraq War. This actually would matter for the safety of the homeland.

From the US perspective you mean, obviously it was from the perspective of countries that were invaded. It was less so than WW2 for sure, but still you have to remember the Zimmerman Telegram and Germany trying to get Mexico to attack the US. Not a huge threat, but I think it convinced the public to support the idea of going to war (much more so than the Lusitania)

The countries that won the most in World War 1 were the ones that fought the least. France, despite being on the winning side, may have lost the most in terms of world power.

I'm saying they fought the hardest and lost the most. With the possible exception of Germany. Ironically Germany, though the loser, gained the most (other than the US), though it is often not seen this way by laymen. Particularly because Versailles was premised on the idea of self-determination of nations, which stood against colonial empires. Well, who had plenty of industrialized country and virtually no colonies in the first place? Germany.

Britain was still the most powerful country in the world after WWI, but just barely. They didn't really fall off until WW2

The UK lost its empire after WW2 and had a lot of internal political problems from what I have heard

I have also read that it really wasn't until the Suez in 1956 when it became clear that the UK was no longer a world power. They tried to make something happen, the US didn't want a part of it and didn't participate, and they weren't able to pull it off and had to pull back and give up. It became clear that the UK was no longer a major player.

If I recall correctly the US decided to threaten their currency somehow (perhaps selling off the pounds they had or something like that) and they couldn't have that so they backed off.

They could have still been a # 2 in the global stage, but instead they crumbled, it puzzles me so much

You really want a middle aged man with chronic bad back problems to playing soldier and having more stress from getting yelled at on the battlefield? Screw that. Just stay home and watch Netflix or movies for DVD and blu ray etc

Plus, everyone has health problems from cancer, bad eyesight, bad backs, mental problems yada yada.

I already served, too old now unless they have since raised the age limit above 35.

I would go if called on.

It's 42 now.

Eh, AFAIK that was a temporary measure the Army implemented. It ranges from 28 (Marines) to 39 (Air Force).

Also, the way the draft works, only 18 to 25 year olds are actually subject to it.

"Fun" fact: At the start of WWII it was more dangerous for an American to be an airman than an infantryman.

If a major war erupts between actually powerful countries don't expect the previous expectations of war to hold up with the change in technology and doctrines. The last time major power fought each other was in WWII and partly in the Korean War when Soviet pilots pretended to be North Koreans. Things have changed a lot since then.
