its a bit weird no other profession feels entitled to handouts.

not that working for tips is a profession.

The sad thing is their job is mind-numbingly simple too. Take order, bring it to kitchen, bring food out when it's ready. "B...but they filled your glass too!"

Something I could easily do myself, but thanks I guess?

Good thing that doesn't apply to me (as made obvious by my post that you misunderstood somehow?). Are you actually this dumb or are you just trying to avoid being a "sheeple" at all costs (which would also make you dumb but probably a bit less so)?

Is the information/understanding that servers often make more than minimum wage really all that elusive? I sense a sort of attempt at elitism over a factoid that's hardly more sophisticated than 2+2=4 and I find it embarrassing that TC would actually make such a topic with even a hint of condescension.

Unskilled work or not, no one should be making $9.25/hr in the USA. You deplorables need to understand something. Helping the group helps you. Helping the top 0.01% and trying to stop a moving train just makes the ride all the worse.

If I tip, it is because I feel they did a really good job. And I will do that with any profession that I feel exceeded my expectations. I feel no obligation to tip though and do often see a sense of entitlement when talking to waiters about the subject, which I dislike and don't understand.

The whole 'if you can't afford to tip then you can't afford to go out to eat' slogan a lot of them say is pretty ridiculous in my opinion as well. I don't see why anyone should be made to feel they HAVE to tip no matter what. It's just wrong.

Why does it matter if it requires sophisticated machinery or not? You still can't do it.

A good server can make or break your entire night, not just your time at the restaurant. I can make your time at my bar the best night you've had all week, or I can make it the worst night of your month. But you're a troll and an idiot so I shouldn't even bother responding any more. If I ever serve someone like you I just give them shitty service and be a dick so they don't come back. I don't want people like you in my bar, and nobody needs a person like you in their life.

I hope you can cook

You go into a restaurant with the expectation you'll have to tip. Some jobs are compensated in this way and I don't get how you could say with a straight face someone expecting to be compensated for your work is feeling entitled. If anything you are the one entitled by feeling you don't have to tip yet knowing you're expected to.

libertarians? Seems like libertarians would like the concept of tipping, seeing as how it's a voluntary and effective practice.

I've noticed most anti-tippers are libertarians, and are against mainly the social stigma for not tipping. Never heard one explain their views, but I've experienced a pretty decent overlap.

Most anti-tippers I've met were hardcore left-wing liberals who were obsessed with idea that everyone needs to make a fair hourly wage, and so they felt that not tipping would help achieve that. No lie.

But, libertarians can be pretty weird. So I believe it.

Really? Most left wingers around here have worked a tipped job so they generally tip well. I can see affluent left wingers not doing it, but it's not something I've noticed.

I will bet you all the money I made tonight (which probably adds up to more an hour than TC makes) that the topic creator doesn't have the balls to go out to eat and tell his server before service begins that he doesn't plan on tipping. Go ahead and don't tip, I literally don't give a FUCK as long as I don't have to waste my time with people like you.

I also like how you quoted half my post and ignored the rest, like how you ignore any effort your server makes and then stiff them.

It seems like if they know that then they know that the tip is the compensation for good service. It would defeat their argument and reinforce the truth that they don't tip just to be cheap fucks.
