Sadly, there's a guy who proved you can have a PS4 (or better) quality rig for $500.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQvDbXsWmGw

He shows benchmarks of multiple games at the end, including GTA V on Very High Settings. Mind you, VERY HIGH settings on most PC games already surpass PS4 visuals (and you haven't even maxxed them yet).

it's more acceptable for gaming than a barebones pc.

Not this one.

Nightengale posted...
no, he literally can't. that's what i'm saying. the pc you made there is not acceptable for anything more than light gaming. the witcher 3, alien isolation, and overwatch are not light gaming. he MIGHT be able to squeak RE5 by with slideshow framerates. that thing would probably struggle with 1080p streaming video to be honest.

My old computer was worse and ran them fine, stop with your snobbery. And an r-pi can stream 1080p ffs, don't be insane.

Damn, Kyuubi truly cares how other people choose to spend their time and money. Its almost as if pipebomb were spending Kyuubis money.

Ignoring that he made the topic which would have no point if nobody cared.

Nightengale posted...
like 8GB for ram was the rule of thumb for years for gaming rigs.

Not for console-level rigs, no.

Nightengale posted...
if you weren't on a budget it would make more sense to go with 16GB, especially since it's, y'know, a PC you'll probably be doing non-gaming things with.

If he wasn't on a budget then there'd be no debate on what to buy.

Nightengale posted...
and you're gonna try to tell me 4GB is fine? and that a stock cooler is fine for any kind of load? lmao foh.

Yup, 4GB and a wraith cooler is plenty.

pipebomb_phil posted...
I don't know why @Kyuubi4269 keeps going. The PS4 is more affordable than the budget PC he built.

$100 cheaper mate.

In this current market if you want to game and can't wait then you made a good choice.

In the PC market with memory and video cards being through the roof due to the mining craze and memory shortage, and with a sign that PSU prices also on the rise (for the better ones) it's so overly expensive to build a PC right now

If you are building your own PC the best thing to do currently is build a upgradable Ryzen APU build using the integrated graphics for now and buying a GPU later. Since really buying a new GPU now means you have no proper understanding of money and are willing to just toss it away to price gougers
or buying a bundle/prebuilt since the parts are generally priced at their intended MSRP when you do it that way or you are getting a discount due to buying bundled parts.

I got lucky in that I built my current rig in 2016 right before all this mining craze happened. I got my RX 480 on release day for $260 and it's now like 500 (such bs) and my ram for like 50 bucks (now its 150) and to be honest i had a roommate/friend at the time who wasted money all the time (he'd be a person that would buy a GPU right now) and I was given my monitors and keyboard, speakers, headphones for free after he just didn't want them anymore! So I made out big time.

Between ordering the parts and shooting this video prices on a few things went up, the build is a little closer to $600 now.

You can't build an affordable gaming PC right now anyway because gtx 970 graphics cards are going for literally one thousand dollars used.

Shit, I should really sell my 970. But can I go without the video games..?

Yeah, I noticed that after linking the vid. Still though, that's not a bad deal (especially with the benchmarks he was showing).

Most people don't have to worry about setting up to shoot a Youtube video, so I'm not sure why he even bothered pointing that out (full disclosure, maybe).
