Vegas cost of living is WAY cheaper and has (arguably) a better nightlife than NY. The downside is that it's loud, so I probably wouldn't want to live like directly on the strip, but maybe just far enough away that you're out of the walking distance for drunken slobs and can have some semblance of peace.

New York seems like it's more "cultured," what with the art and broadway shows and whatnot, but again, the cost to live there is like 2x that in Vegas

(take that for what it's worth, i literally just did a quick google and this is the first thing i found)

Yeah, Locals avoid the strip the best they can. Only going there if they work there. Maybe for concerts and sporting events also.

I would never want to live in another city that has casinos as a major draw. The rampant homelessness, people struggling with substance and gambling addictions, and the low overall wages? No. No thank you

But I also would not want to live in NYC

being able to go out into the desert for some peace and quiet with relatively little travel time vs. the glow and appeal of the strip

that really stands out to me tbh

Homelessness exists, and is created by the drinking and gambling. It might not be very visible though, and Nevada has a long history of pushing their homeless into California and they might still be doing it

Id much rather live in Vegas between the two. The strip is a relatively small part of the city. Most folks that live there arent going down that way too often.

NYC seems way too crowded and I think Id get really high strung being around so many high energy people. Plus its absurdly expensive.

Plus if some kind of apocalypse happened and we lost most of the electric grids in the US, Vegas would still have power for quite a while from the Hoover dam

When I lived there we didnt go to the strip often, but it was always an option. Special occasion dinner? Fancy casino restaurant. Relatives visiting? Casino buffet. Birthday? Game works or the Coca Cola factory was always a fun option.

Fourth of July in Vegas was the best because you really could go out in the desert in plain view of the strip and see amazing fireworks.

yeah i'm thinking this is only the real draw in terms of entertainment that NY has over vegas. NY definitely feels more "cultured" with its performances, what with broadway and whatnot.

Vegas is just celine dion and pitbull and britney spears and the same vapid shit

I'd see Cirque out of those, and it tours. Elton John is cool, but I don't care enough to see him or the others due to price. I'm a music nerd though, so the fact that New York is host to anything and everything John Zorn is kinda impossible for me to pass up. The East Coast is by far better for entertainment, whether it's Canada or USA imo. West Coast still has good scenes in Vancouver, Seattle, LA, but it's just so much huger out east. I do like the laidback vibe and nature of the West though.
