80/80

DD:DA was a fantastic game. It has its flaws for sure, but damn if it's not a ton of fun once you've figured out the quirks. The combat is pretty spectacular. And Bitterblack Isle was so satisfying to work through, with the eerie Dark Souls-inspired vibe and some really brutal enemies. Enemy design was also really amazing. Everything really looked epic, with the dragons and chimera and probably my favorite representation of death in any video game. I mean seriously, just look at this mother fucker and tell me you wouldn't shit yourself the first time you see him pop up in the middle of a battle in a pitch-black sewer tunnel:

If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it. But now I need something new. I'm kind of in the mood for another hefty time-sink (Steam says I have 177 hours of playtime in Dragon's Dogma...), and an action-RPG would be great. I'm somewhat tempted to check out Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne, but I played DS2:SotFS and never really got into it. I made it pretty far because I kept believing that it was going to "click" eventually, but after about 30 hours it just didn't happen. I love the style, though, and after enjoying Bitterblack Isle so much I'm kind of in the mood for more of that dark crumbling ancient stonework kind of environment that Dark Souls does so well.

I'm also open to something more lighthearted or completely different, of course. That's just standing out because I enjoyed DD so much and I can't help but feel that whole "yes, gimme more of THAT" kinda feeling right now. :-P

I'm playing on PC, btw.

Already have Witcher 3. Good suggestion, though.

I've never been into Monster Hunter, and I thought I heard the PC version of World had some serious issues. Has that changed since release?

O_o

Is there a previous MH game that's out for PC? I could've sworn there was a huge problem with a MH game's PC release being basically unplayable because of glitches and horrible optimization? Now I'm confused...

The PC version isn't due out for months, you're thinking of another game i think.

I'd recommend monster hunter world and horizon zero dawn

Sadly, also not on PC. And never going to be, either. ;_;

I could get it on PS4, but I don't have much time to play my PS4. Most of my gaming is done on my laptop while I'm bored at work. Sometimes I'll go 3+ hours straight without having literally anything else to do at work. Gaming makes the night shift 1000x easier to handle.

I don't think I can be much help on the recommendations front since I really only play Civilisation 6 on PC these days (although if you want a timesink game that definitely fits) but I'll enter pretty much any thread talking about Dragon's Dogma. God, I absolutely love that game so, so much. I'm guessing with the amount of hours you put in that you did a second run through BBI for the "true" final boss?

It's been in my backlog for forever and I just started playing it a couple nights ago, literally the only reason why I posted that. It's a fun game though tbh and has some depth to it.

It's an absolute diamond in the rough, isn't it? ^_^

And yeah, I did basically everything you can do.

I completed the game on Normal first, went to BBI during the post-game (at like level 35 or something) and realized that was a stupid idea. XD Then went to the Everfall and messed around for a few hours there before starting a NG+ on Hard Mode. Finished the game on Hard (this time using a quest order guide to make sure I didn't accidentally cancel/skip any of the side quests), and then went to BBI again. I was about level 65-75 at this point, I think. Managed to slowly work my way through to the boss and somehow beat him after about a 20-minute fight that I was absolutely not prepared for. XD Did some farming for the lvl3 BBI gear and leveling up as I worked through it a second time. By the time I got to the "true" boss I was already in the 160s level-wise with a bunch of gold/silver rarefied gear, but I'd taken to going solo Magic Archer by that point so the fight was still a fun one. Then did a quick speedrun mode (35:19 on the timer, which I was pretty happy with considering I didn't properly prep for it and mostly went in blind), followed by some Death farming to reach lvl 200 and finish up all the Steam achievements. It's actually the first Steam game I've gotten 100% of the achievements on.

I have a feeling it's going to be one of those games that I can't help but pick back up every year or so and play through again because it's just fantastic and the combat is SOOOO satisfying.

I'm playing Monster Hunter World because a friend of mine told me it had a Dragon's Dogma type feel as far as fighting monsters.

I'm having save problems, though. Downloaded the digital Dragon's Dogma: DA onto my One, but can't use my 360 cloud save for whatever reason. So I haven't actually continued on the One out of fear of messing something up on my original save.

I know exactly what you mean. I think it holds my record as I've currently bought it 4 separate times (the original and DA versions on Xbox 360, DA on Steam, and the remaster on PS4). My PS4 run was pretty much what you experienced; I went to BBI just to clear the quest notification and thought "how bad could it be?". Turns out it can be pretty bad when you're not prepared! It was a really satisfying time getting through it though, and it was the kind of difficulty that was perfect after completing the story. Thinking about all the new monsters and bosses is making me want to play it again, but I'm not prepared to overwrite my save just yet. It's one I'll be going back to again and again for sure, I just wish there was a chance they'd make a proper sequel rather than the MMO because there was a huge world outside of Gransys waiting to be explored.

I couldn't agree more. The lore is so simple and yet so intriguing that there is so much they could do with it. Would love to see a sequel maybe set in Hearthstone or Voldoa. Hell, even a prequel would work. The whole "endless cycle" concept means it doesn't really need to be set in stone whether it's past or future.

Hopefully.

But Dark Arisen came out nearly 4 years ago. You'd think they'd have at least mentioned it by now?

It's a really damn good game, I would highly recommend trying to give it a proper shot.

Maybe try looking up some videos of the different classes to see if any are particularly interesting to you.

I'm hoping the sales for the remaster have been good enough to make them consider it afresh.

So I decided to pick up Dark Souls 3 and I'm enjoying it thoroughly so far. But I haven't gotten very far in yet. And I've realized it's really not conducive to playing at work, even offline, because it's not always easy to find a safe spot to chill when a customer comes in. The lack of ability to pause is more of a hassle than I thought it would be.

I'm not gonna get a refund, though, because it is really great so far and I'm going to beat it even if I only get to play an hour or so at a time. But that does mean I'm still looking for another game to play at work. :-/
