Rocky 5 definitely is bad, but it's not the worst movie in the franchise. Rocky 4 is. At least Rocky 5 tried to be a movie; Rocky 4 is essentially an extended music video.

Really, the only truly great Rocky movies are Rocky 1 and Creed. Rocky 2 is a bland rehash of Rocky 1; it's OK, but not great. Rocky 3 is when Rocky started to put style over substance; it's mediocre at best. 4 and 5 are garbage.

It's kind of hard to judge Balboa. The concept is completely ridiculous (Rocky boxing in his fucking 60s, fighting a boxer in his PRIME? Get the fuck out with that shit), but the execution was actually nice; you could see the emotional investment in the movie. Still, it's mediocre at best.

Yeah but you're making it sound more ridiculous than it actually is. Like if you get an average dude vs prime Tyson but then add the stipulation that Tyson is blindfolded it becomes somewhat believable. (Still think Tyson wins even with blindfold though lmao)

I really respect creed as a movie, but how could you say it's better than the first if it straight out copies a lot of things the original did? The only thing I could say really set it apart for me was the tugging at the heart strings when Rocky gets sick :( (which I think stallone should've gotten an oscar for)

Idk man, I'm not good at ranking stuff where I like so much of it. I can tell you 5 is easily the worst, distantly followed by Balboa... Then it gets tricky for me. I also have a hard time separating 1 and 2 because I always watched them together as a kid.

If I had to pull a ranking out of my ass right now I'd say 1 > 3 (dat bromance) > 4 > Creed > 2 > Balboa >>> 5 but the only ones I'm solid on are the first being the best and 5 being the worst with Balboa behind it.

It's also hard because I like different ones for different reasons. Like 1, 2, and Creed I think are legitimately great movies. 3 and 4 I love but also because of their cheesiness and not really taking themselves overly seriously. 5 took the cheesiness out of just fun levels and into bad levels. Balboa just pushed the absurdity of the franchise too far. I've also seen it at least 3 times and hardly remember it.

But seriously, Creed is just a more viscerally enjoyable film than Rocky, at least to me. The cancer subplot doesn't really do much.
Seeing Rocky become the Mickey, is just heartguts as fuck.
