honestly the game is already 'finished.' it's had some nice QOL changes post-release, but most of the new story additions, be it the paid episodes or free cutscenes, has been a patchwork of content that neither fixes the flaws in XV's narrative nor adds anything substantial. feel free to play the game whenever the mood strikes you. my recommendation, however, is: don't. it's bad.

presumably they'll offer a Season 2 pass just before Episode Ardyn goes live.

Neither pass will contain the additions in the Royal Edition, if you already own the game.

Honestly, as much griping as people do about Square and FFXV (me included), I think this is a great way to support big games like this. It's not too dissimilar to CDPR with Witcher 3 or Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed Origins. A mixture of small updates and substantial expansions to games of this ilk is likely the way forward as publishers transition to a games as service model, even for single player experiences.

Unfortunately in this case, the cupboards of Final Fantasy XV are bare, and Square is filling it with ramen.

I got the platinum for this game a week after it came out, uninstalled it, and never played it again. At this point it feels like they've added in a full games worth of content.

So as someone who knows basically nothing about FFXV (was waiting for the definitive PC version but I guess I'll just keep waiting until the game's actually done now,) how smoothly are all these episodes woven in to the base game?

If it's actually seamlessly connected, then this seems like a neat way to expand on the game, but if all of these "episodes" are really clearly just additional stuff that was piled on after the fact, it seems like it would make playing through the story a bit janky.

They all make perfect sense. They were written at times individual characters were taken out if the game.

Yeah, there are portions of the game where each of the main characters is separated from Noctis in some way or another, and their DLCs cover those periods.

i typically buy mie goreng or the spicy kind of pancit and then make any additions that catches my fancy. pancit canton with a bit of egg, green beans, corn, and sriracha is good stuff

The game is a completely disjointed patchwork of demos that the team was able to complete before release. It's like walking through a museum for FFXV. In that sense the episodes fit in perfectly.
