Want to talk about a flaw in our system....this is a flaw. Just put him on trial. End trial. Hang him.

Death penalty doesn't even matter. Takes 20 years, costs a shit ton of money, and is painless. It is hardly a punishment.

Well, whether or not he gets the death penalty doesn't really matter at this point. He's never going to be a factor again. He's either going to be dead soon, or he's going to be locked up for life. Whatever the case, he's not going to be able to kill innocent people again.

Charles Manson was in prison for decades and all he did was act like a clown during interviews. He wasn't able to hurt anyone anymore. Same as this guy is going to be if he avoid the death penalty.

The important thing now is not what happens to him but how we can find ways to stop things like this from happening again!

He will never be free again. Whether or not he understand this is irrelevant at this point.

It's sad that he wasn't able to get help. It sucks. Maybe it's not his fault. But he fucking killed 17 innocent people. It's too late now. The world will go on without him and he's just going to rot in his hole until he dies.

Death penalty folks get unlimited appeals. This typically is most significant when the evidence against them amounts to things like DNA, fingerprints, etc.

This isn't the case with this shooter. The evidence against him is insurmountable. DNA can wind up in all sorts of places and fingerprints aren't as reliable a means of identification that most people think they are. If there is even a miniscule chance the evidence is wrong death penalty is an extremely long procedure.

Otherwise you basically get an Express lane to the injection bed.

Do you know how much tax money went into all the externalities that allowed him to reach adulthood?

He has not contributed any tax money yet to society. I say we spend a good 3-4 years working on his psychology and restoring him to normal so he can get a job and pay taxes to give back to the government and the country. Putting a bullet in him is bad for everyone.

Sunk cost fallacy

how is that a fallacy? He has potential to earn a lot more tax money for our government as it stands with very little marginal cost.

Life in prison is a worse fate anyway.

Everyone always says this and while it's technically true, I would just feel a whole lot better knowing he's dead and gone and that being the end of that, rather than knowing he's still alive somewhere, regardless of how much prison justice he gets (unless of course another inmate finishes him).

Doesn't always work that way.

People did talk about Charles Manson for literally decades. They're still talking about Anders Brevik (sp?) and nobody is talking much about Ariel Castro (suicide in cell) and basically nobody even knows who Timothy McVeigh is anymore.
