On a scale of 1 to 10, with Madoka being a 12:

original series (or first movie) = mostly around 3 or 4, but certain parts later on can take it up to about a 7
A's (or second movie) = around 5 or 6 the whole way through
Strikers = mostly around 5 or 6, but it spikes to a 9 for a couple of episodes in the second half of the series

I haven't watched ViVid yet, but I can tell just from looking that it's noticeably brighter and more upbeat than either A's or StrikerS. Also, I recommend watching the first Nanoha movie instead of the original TV series because it's a drastic improvement, but A's and the second movie are pretty even in terms of overall quality.

I really hope you enjoy the series, and I'll drop by this topic later on to hopefully hear some of your reactions.

Life called for a few hours, but I got the first three episodes in. So far, this is the most kawaii shit ever. The art style though...I feel like between the anatomy and the camera angles, there are some uncomfortable undertones of lolicon-bait.

Also, I never watched much magical girl stuff, so it's blowing my mind how many of the tropes I saw Madoka tear apart are being played straight. Still, it's enjoyable.

I decided to watch the series instead of the movie because I'm a hopeless completionist, also I have a free trial of Amazon Prime lol.

So far it's pretty fun. Next ep preview shows some rival blonde character. Looks interesting.

In terms of cuteness, yes. But there's very little actual fanservice until Nanoha StrikerS, which takes place after a 10-year time skip when Nanoha is an adult.

If you already think it's enjoyable, just wait until you get to the battle scenes. You'll be blown away.

Yeah. I woke up at 3am with heart palpitations so I figured I'd watch 3 more.

Met Fate. She seems cool, even if she dresses how a 13 year old boy imagines a 9 year old girl. >_> Also glad this isn't JoJo or that cat from episode 4 wouldve had a bad time. <_<

IIRC I think one of the spinoffs in the franchise has A girl getting bullied and because of it she is delayed in seeing her dying Grandpa who passes before she can see him. She snaps and mauls her bullies. Like slamming heads into lockers hard enough to draw blood and straight up OHKO, kicks straight to the head, stomping on a already unconscious bully(which sounded like it broke somehting) and bending arms till the bone breaks. There was blood dripping down several lockers. They had it coming but damn that was brutal. And everyone in the scene was 12 or something.

The main series has its own moments. A lot of them are ostensibly cute and happy but get fairly fucked up with things.

Apparently all the dvds are out if print and there is no legal way to watch this series in America except Amazon Prime video. Guess I've got like, three weeks to finish this then lol.

Prime video has subbed Nanoha? I didnt even know there was any official release outside Asia at all...except the first season/ original series got a dub didnt it?

I have no idea, but yeah. Prime has the subs for the original series, A, Strikers, and Vivid Strikers.

No Vivid, sadly. Gonna have to get creative if I want to see it. >_>

Same. I haven't watched ViVid Strike yet, but I've seen that scene posted a few times and it makes me smile every time. I can't stand bullies, and I was myself bullied quite a bit in school, so seeing bullies like those girls get what they deserve is a very good thing to me.
