As Michelle Obama unintentionally proved, kids generally don't like plain milk, and would rather throw it away and just go thirsty.

That's horrible! The most important thing a child should learn in school is that milk goes with anything.

people go to mcdonalds for convenience and a quick meal...so i don't see why trying to make that option healthier is such a bad thing.

I honestly think it is more of a PR thing than a way to attempt to induce people to eat there who wouldn't otherwise, or even offer people who might be dragged along there something to satisfy them. Healthy options at fast food places are pretty much always losing propositions monetarily

Not even like the "healthy" options are even that great for you.

Also milk, and by that extension chocolate milk, is garbage.

Because kids have low standards and will scream for it until weak parents give in and get it for them.

It can, but going by recent army recruitment numbers, men aren't doing any better.

LOL, if it's an option, then that means it has to be requested.

i just don't understand the notion that fast food can't have healthy options...people don't say "I'm gonna go to McDonalds because i want to be unhealthy"...they're either craving something OR they need a quick meal after work or whatever...you add some healthier options and you increase the amount of people considering your restaurant when they're in a pinch...

that isn't how it works in practice is all

people kind of do say, I'm gonna go to McDonalds because I want to be unhealthy

I would love it if fast food had more healthier options. I would actually get food there.

yeah but most people who think that way think that way regardless -- it is a branding issue if nothing else

mcdonalds is actually moving away from their healthy menu options and they have seen successful after a string of poor years because of it

don't really know what to tell you, I understand your logic but just because it makes common sense doesn't mean it is true in practice like I said

e.g.

http://time.com/money/3111817/burger-king-satisfries-healthy-fast-food/

http://time.com/money/4303546/mcdonalds-big-mac-fries-health/

In early 2015, when McDonalds announced that it would be hiring a new CEO, one of the biggest challenges facing the next boss was the criticism that the companyand, in particular, the menulacked focus. Franchise owners complained that the menu had grown too large and complex. And a big reason the menu had expanded significantly is that McDonalds seemed to be going to extraordinary lengths to woo younger, more health-minded customers with items like the McWrap.

The Premium McWrap arrived in 2013 as McDonalds much-hyped, supposedly healthy answer to Subway and Chipotle. It was in that same year, however, that McDonalds CEO Don Thomson told investors that salads sell poorly, constituting only 2% to 3% of U.S. sales.

Restaurant analysts were puzzled by the health initiative, which appeared to muddle McDonalds classic mission of providing cheap quick-serve burgers and fries. Theyve gone so far afield from their core menu that theyre not really resonating with anyone, Howard Penney, managing director at investment research firm Hedgeye Risk Management, explained to the Wall Street Journal a few years ago. McDonalds is never going to be perceived as healthy, so for them to spend too much time on healthy items doesnt make a lot of sense to me.

The Happy Meal has long been a target of health advocates and parents who link it to childhood obesity. McDonald's has made many tweaks over the years, including cutting the size of its fries and adding fruit. Most recently, it swapped out its apple juice for one that has less sugar.

McDonald's has been around in its current form since the mid 50s. There weren't a hell of a lot of fat kids around then, nor the following couple or three decades.
