Everything about this game is the same as the SNES original except the graphics and translation. Some take it for what it is and enjoy it despite its flaws, others think it makes the flaws even more glaring.

I mean the biggest problem of the original was that the content was chopped up, so you got weird jumps between plot points that didn't make any sense (the translation did this no favors). Reviews don't say anything about how that was addressed

I thought this remake looked really terrible in the trailer, like the charm was just sucked out of the original with no real upside to it

Did they at least include an actual rearranged soundtrack or did they leave it as a copy and paste from what I saw in the early looks

I don't remember any awful color schemes. I remember some things about the game being dubious, but not that. The art was the second-best part of the game, after the music.

Merchant looked like he was dancing to me in the most recent gameplay video I watched, but he wasn't dancing in an earlier video a couple of months ago

I kinda had an eye on this, but I anticipated it being not great. Though, I just read review that mentioned Adventures of Mana being, apparently, much better and that's only 8 on PSN. Anyone played that?

Adventures of Mana is fine. It's a better remake in that it actually makes more improvements over the base game than this Secret of Mana remake does over its original version. But I still think SoM is a superior game to AoM.

The art style is definitely taken from Adventure of Mana, which (while it has a Vita version), was originally for mobiles. I'd assume that a lot of the assets are just upscaled from that, and the engine is probably the same too.

So in other words, it is a mobile game, just one being released for full price on consoles.

The lack of basic lip movements bothers me, but in all honesty it's nowhere close to a dealbreaker.

I've put up with worse and had a good time.

Are the grappling attacks from the fist weapons fixed so they actually deal damage, or were they removed completely?

Good! It bothered me that they didn't do jack squat despite being a unique thing.

That alone might be worth buying the game for. On sale. Because I've already spent a good chunk of money recently.
