so i've been farming rathains for like, an hour and a half now.

i'll send sos flares up, people will join, we proceed to wreck his shit, over and over. 7 fights, no carting, nothing. perfect fights. everyone is just in the fuckin groove.

so i decide to farm the fucking, chicken t rex bitch, arjanath or whatever it's name is.

does no one know how to fight this fucking thing? stay away from its fucking head

that's it. like what the fuck, three times i've tried this, three times someone carts and mission failure.

How far an you get into this solo

i'm not running story missions, i'm doing alternate? side? whatever, the other missions that are just "hunt this monster with the time limit"

Me and amy buddy are trying to play it together and he's up to the previous mission I did. Now I have no idea how its gonna work for the cutscenes when we start doing missions neither of us have done.

I just beat the game. There are more optionals without cutscenes as you progress through the story, and I think everything after the story are basic missions so it's much easier to join up.

Yeah I did what you said about the watch the cutscenes and rejoin the other which was helpful. Wed alresdy figured out the expedition route which was bullshit.

once you fight Anaj the second time you'll hate him
he drains all your hp in one hit if he hits you with his jaw attack even if the attack doesn't physically touch your characters hit box
i beat him but even having upgraded armor for the fight didn't help it took me a few days of several hours of grinding to beat him and luck

my buddy got angry, because he didn't know how to superman dive in the game. I had to beat diablos for him, because he didn't want to learn how to dodge or evade his attack. He thinks because he an Insect Glaive user his job is to mount things. so he's constantly in the air. i'm telling him that's not how it works. you can't spam hadoken to win at street fighter. You will get wrecked. Then we got to nergigante he just gave up, saying the game is dumb, because i told him about the superman dive. i told him we weren't ready to fight him we only had 270 defense and he was using a rank 4 weapon. we needed more attack and defense just incase he hits us. But he presistaced and got angry that he triple carted. i laughted and say we can try again and tried to teach him to superman dive. he said to put away your weapon and run and evade is a dumb mechanics... games shouldn't work like that.

All of the attacks are telegraphed in painfully obvious ways. If you took time to look at its attack patterns instead of just attacking you would beat it ez.

So if I understand you correctly, one can directly join a friends game by simply answering the SOS without leaving the game and still get credit for the storyline quest. Said online settings can be set so only friends can answer the SoS, right? I never used the SoS flares in MH4U so am not 100% sure how they work, I assume it just makes your game appear on the list of open games.

when you "die" in monster hunter, you get a little cutscene where you watch your dude get delivered to camp on a cart. so dying in this came is referred to as carting.

you can die three times, max, and the fourth death fails the mission and sends everyone back to town

It's fine for the first half of the game but as I've been playing with a couple of friends, we've found it very difficult in the latter half with just two people. Three is manageable.

and if everyone leaves so it's just you by yourself again, the monster isn't scaled down. it still has the stats as if there were multiple people with you.

What weapons does everyone prefer?

I started with the Charge Blade for the first 15 hours or so. I've since changed to the Bow and haven't looked back since. Loving the Bow.

Has it always been like this in previous MH installments? I know in MH4U hunts were scaled based on the number of monsters. When hunting a single monster its health would be 100% of its norm for example but when hunting two of them, their health are reduced. I co-oped through most of it with one friend with a third occasionally joining us so can't say if I noticed a difference between two and three players.

I'll probably start off with sword and shield again and then shift to light bowgun or start off immediately with the LBG. I played through most of MH4U with SS and besides liking the mobility I also enjoyed playing the "support" role with paralysis and traps. I am somewhat tempted to try the charge blade for when I want the extra oomph though.

EDIT: Speaking of LBG, I watched a video and it seems much more mobile now but the video didn't mention critical distance. Is that still a thing where you deal the most damage by being at a certain distance from your target? I think in MH4U, the screen will shake slightly if you were at the right distance.

Yeah but when you start fighting dudes that'll one hit you, it's pretty easy to screw up. So longer fights mean greater chance of carting.

Of course everything can be solved by gitting gud.

No, the one in high rank thats appears randomly and has to be done before you complete 2 quests and dissappears again after. Its a repeat of the final time you fight him.

Honestly it's not that bad because you have the cats with you. They don't do much damage, but double vigorwasp or vigorwasp and coral choir are powerful tools.
