The more money you have, the less you have to worry about things that cost money. Less worry and more stuff helps you avoid stress and boredom, which does increase your happiness to a point. But money itself is not love, friendship, fulfillment, experience, etc. It will never make a miserable person happy by itself.

Nope.

I live as much off the grid as I possibly can, and most cash people want from me are to help pay off the debts of others in a social spending system I was born into with no way of escaping.

Outside of a few instances its impossible to live in a first world cou try without paying a bill to somebody.

Well, at least if you were BORN in those countries.

Money systems are slavery and population control. Debts hold society back and representing debt is the only thing we seem to use money for anymore.

So if you found out you had terminal cancer, your mother got raped, your best friend killed your father, and the love of your life just committed suicide your saying as long as you had money you'd be happy? If you answer no then you're contradicting yourself. If money=happiness, and if I wasnt worrying doesn't matter because all other factors other than whether you have money are irrelevant to happiness. If anything you seem to be arguing more that lack of money causes unhappiness, which isn't really the same thing.

A lot of people seem to be mistaking the question as whether money correlates with happiness, but as it is currently worded that is not what the question is asking.

Of course you'd be sad. Sad things happen. If you didn't have money, you'd also be sad. If I had a lot of money and lost it, I'd be sad, too. But life moves on. You'd have to mourn, but life would move on. And you'd find you're happiness again. But it would definitely be easier with money. One less stressor in your life. I don't think all you need is money to be happy. But it's a big factor. And can definitely impact it a lot...

Yep.

Money might not be able to buy you happiness, but it can buy you a lot of stuff that will facilitate that happiness. And, as a corollary, money may not equal happiness, but a lack of it can absolutely make you fucking miserable.

I'm a pretty happy guy and when I think about all the stuff in my life that makes me happy, almost all of it would not be possible if I didn't earn a decent wage.

There are massive diminishing returns on how much your quality of life improves in relation to how much money you make (hint: it pretty much stops well before you even hit six figures).

Having enough money that you don't need to worry about it is fine, but nobody really needs more than that.

You need money to live. If you have ample amount of money, you'll have a happier (and easier) life.

It all depends on what you do with it really. But bottom line is... you need money to be happy.

You're falsely conflating money you make with money you have. The distinction is pretty important. If you're independently wealthy, you're not dependent on an employer for your livelihood and can pursue what interests you. Making a lot of money may be great, but having a lot of money is far better.

As for the point of diminishing returns, that partly depends on where you live and largely depends on what you want.

However, the point being made is that more money can buy more comfort. Instead of needing to drive to a 3-star resort for a vacation, you could fly to a 5-star resort. And, more importantly, having access to more money provides greater financial security and freedom.
