Not to mention when people complain about this, there is almost always retaliation from management in the form of less shifts. Everyone in the industry knows this.

Not fair. From what I read, the church took the position that it was a misunderstanding and wanted to make things right. They apparently did not complain. The restaurant did it on its own. I didn't read what she actually posted though, so if it was inflammatory, she should have had action taken against her but not necessarily firing.

Sure, but it was still an employee trying to shame a customer in a business's name. That doesn't sit well with most employers.

You're supposed to tip on takeout orders? I've never ordered takeout from a restaurant like that, but I didn't realize you were supposed to tip if you pick your food up and leave lol

At this point these greedy waitresses and waiters want you to tip them just because they wash their hands after using the bathroom.

I'm pretty certain I've already explained this to you before, but the difference is someone working 40+ hours a week still shouldn't be struggling to support themselves. Absolutely, working in a takeout restaurant isn't meant to be a career. That's where we agree. The assertion that you can just "pack your bags and move anywhere else and find a better job" at a whim as you once so eloquently put, it where it ends.

Well she did something that would have been hard to get away with because social media. To me, the difference would be whether she was shaming an anonymous customer or shaming and calling out a customer by name (either person who picked up the order or by name of the church). The latter would look much worse.

If they order a lot i'm on the side of the restaurant.

Why would you side with a waitress over a business who's gonna bring in what you make in an hour in one order?

When i worked for pizza hut years ago we used to do the book it pizzas. We had a dude who messed up those orders once and our Area GM came in and pretty much messed his schedule up by taking him off those orders.

Sometimes they'd tip and sometimes they wouldnt but each order they did was like 400 bucks.

Several hundred dollars, that's over a dozen bags of still piping hot food. Possibly more containers depending on what they store the food in. Plus the time it takes to put in the order. So about the same amount of time interacting with the customers as if they sat down, minus drinks.

I seen alot of Mexican restaurants where I live actually have a tip jar right by the drive thru window. Like wtf. If I see the cook handing me the food I might, but you're just working the drive thru. Literally talk through an intercom and hand me a bag. Fuck no I ain't tipping.

When they're waiting on tables they're actually tending to a customer. When they're doing takeout all they're doing is handing a bag over and saying bye. It's absolutely not the same thing. One is around an hour of time invested with a customer, the other is maybe 5 minutes at the most. What are they being tipped for?

Average cost of an Outback meal is about $15. Divide that by 735 and you have 49 orders, but lets make it 50. You can easily fit an average of 3 orders in an Outback bag, so 3 into 50 is a little over 16 bags. Lets make it 17. So you have an average of 17 bags. At minimum you will be carrying two bags to the car which is literally right outside of the takeout door at Outback. It is highly likely the guy who came to pick up the food is going to help so thats 4 bags per trip which can be done in 4 trips. Even if he didn't help thats only 8 trips to the car which is once again right at the door. Thats assuming they didn't put it in a box for easier carrying. All that can be done in a matter of minutes.

The piping hot food is a non issue because they're in containers

If you want to consider putting in an order as "work" then go for it and add 5 more min.

She still wouldn't have done anything in which a tip would be required

Lol, its fair. Complain to your coworkers or friends but definitely dont put it out there for everyone to see.

And church people are by far the worst tippers and Im almost certain that they use the collection money for their orders. At the pizza place I was at theyd order a bunch of pizzas every Monday and come in and pay with all different types of money. And never tipped, not even once, and would stand at the counter waiting for someone to bring the pizzas to their car. Church people suck.

But this is 100% completely fair.

Tips are for the waiter's service, and if it's a pickup order, I'm not being served by a waiter, and there's nobody to tip. That said, if this was seven hundred bucks worth of food and the staff did a carryout, then a tip is in order. Tips are for service. I don't get why it's so hard for some people to figure out.

But just to clarify take out can get stupid busy. Unlike serving you dont have 5-10 people there also taking tables. On a busy night if the manager cant help you youre basically fucked.

Its also more than putting shit in a bag and handing it to someone. Food doesnt usually come off the kitchen line just ready to go.

Ill never understand why people think they know everyones job. If you havent worked in a restaurant just say youre a cheap fuck. Dont oversimplify the job to justify it though.
