If it "harmed" the recipient of the "joke" then it wasn't a "harmless joke." Fact.

The recipient wasn't, their mother was.

I'll admit that I haven't read a lot about this, mainly just the summary given by OP, but do you know that the recipient's feelings weren't hurt? If so, where is that information?

So your argument is this black person shouldn't be cautious of this "joke" because #NotAllWhitePeople kill black people, just some?

this is highly intellectually dishonest. in 2016, according to fbi stats [which admittedly don't account for every murder, as not all are solved or known] 229 blacks were killed by whites. there were approximately 250,000,000 whites in the country then. 229/250,000,000=0.000000916. do you know anything about statistics? probability?

knivesX2004 posted...
All I'm saying is this person has the right to be paranoid, afraid, whatever of this joke because things aren't necessarily safe for people these days and all I'm seeing is #NotAllWhitePeople hate everyone.
But this guy is most definitely a Nazi. You don't need to be in ww2 to be considered a Nazi, that's absurd.

just like you have the right to be wrong, uninformed, and delusional. that doesn't mean others should support others in being wrong, uninformed, and delusional.

to compare someone making a joke [in poor taste if you want] to a group alleged to committed genocide is absolutely absurd. you don't even seem to realize that attempting to lump an individual into a group/label so you can ostracize/demonize them is precisely what the nazis [and commies] were said to have done.

identity politics is for those who have no individuality of their own and cannot recognize others as individuals. that is prejudice, that is racism, that is ignorant stupidity.

So more statistics saying it's not racist and more deflection on the whole defending Nazis thing.
Got it.

Did not intend to imply that. Was actually including that type of distress in my understood definition of harm. It's my opinion that this type of joke is not cool. I can't speak to how the employee felt, but if it were me, I would be pretty upset, as this is a pretty isolating and spotlighting joke that I wouldn't appreciate, regardless of the racial overtones, which seem to, if anything, amplify the effect. Doesn't seem like a nice joke. People saying that the employee's mom was the only one with the problem are jumping to conclusions(without backing) to serve their perspective, IMO.

That's literally what Nazis are. If they weren't a member of the Third Reich, then they're as much a Nazi as a cosplayer is the character they portray.

it's a round-about way of saying "He's a closet neo-nazi".

But he's not even a closet one, he was the leader of the American Nazi Party lol

If he called it the French Foreign Legion, would that make him an actual member of that? No, of course not.

Oh look, Helly is trying to become relevant by throwing around baseless accusations to get senpai to notice him. Again.

it's not baseless though

you're in this topic defending a nazi

again

it's pretty clear cut

you have a track record of doing this, and it's very...unsurprising.

It is baseless considering that he's not a Nazi in the first place, nor am I defending him at all. And, if you want to talk about track records, we could discuss your sad attempts like these to try to make yourself relevant again.

Super_Thug44 posted...
He was the leader of the National Socialist White People's Party, which used to be called the American Nazi Party. So while he was in charge of a party that was obviously Nazi from the beginning, I guess you can't really say he was in charge of the American Nazi Party, so Zeus kind of has a point. A lot of news outlets are saying he was the former leader of the "American Nazi Party" which isn't true, and likely only being said to get click-bait views because it sounds a lot worse than "National Socialist White People's Party" (which still sounds bad).

The bigger issue is by labeling fake Nazis you diminish the evil of actual Nazis. And anybody can call themselves whatever the fuck they want, but that doesn't make them that thing.

If you're making a claim like emotional duress, it's really up to you to prove that claim rather than asking others to disprove it.

How is this arbitrary statement even a talking point? Why are you talking around a man who clearly knows what he supports and defends himself for saying it? He supports Nazi beliefs.

They are pretending, considering that the Nazi Party collapsed in 1945 and the Nazis who weren't reintegrated into society either went into hiding or were tried for war crimes.

Overlooking the fact that's not how party affiliations work, he's a Holocaust denier and the Holocaust was kind of a big deal for the Nazi Party. That's like saying somebody holds Catholic beliefs despite not believing in Jesus-- although that would *still* be more legit than this since the Catholic Church is a thing which has continued to exist all this time and that people can join today.
