Tax cuts for the lower and middle class are fine but its the corporate cuts in the bill that are really going to f*** us over in the long run. When the inevitable recession happens and there isnt enough funding the GOP is just going to push for cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid just as theyve done every time in the past (and screw over their own voters in the process, who are the overwhelming majority of people that rely on safety net programs). Corporate tax cuts also drive down economic growth and job creation because companies are less incentivized to reinvest profits back into their business (since the alternative of losing it to taxes instead is no longer there).

And what's really genius is that the tax plan completely screws over blue states... which werent going to vote for him anyway.

How did they do this?

The $10k cap on SALT and mortgage interest deductions.

My cousins are both die hard republicans in $1-2 million dollar homes and they feel so betrayed lol.

>The rich should pay more in taxes
>People in million dollar homes can't deduct as much SALT anymore its unfair!

It is unfair because it was obvious the cap on the deductions were a direct hit on blue states with a high cost of living and high state income taxes. They live in million dollar homes that are just the average price for a house around here.

also, even if you think deductions are bad in general and think that the rich should pay more in taxes, the overall tax package did not raise taxes on the rich! the rejiggering of the SALT falls on the upper middle classes more than the truly rich

Liberals think the government can do a better job of spending that money on yourself than you can.

They also need to take a cut of it to pay themselves for doing their jobs (their job is using your money).

They'll probably get a smaller return, because they're paying less in taxes.

This administration is interesting spending and decreasing taxes.

So spending more when they have less to spend

The math is wrong and that debt will be paid

Do your part and don't file a tax return, then. Uncle Sam needs that cash!

Lol nobody actually cares about "the debt". It's just been a topic to rage at the opposing party for the last 15 years.

I don't have to read the bill. My wife and I have an extra $500 a month in our pockets, and that is all that matters.

Well the Tax Policy Center's projection says otherwise.

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/distributional-analysis-conference-agreement-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act/full

Middle quintile will have a federal tax rate that is 1.4% lower and will lead to a $930 reduction in tax for 2018.

Liberals can complain how bad these tax cuts are all they want, the fact of the matter is struggling families will see a bigger paycheck thanks to it. When youre in that position youll gladly take what you can get. Its easy saying how bad these tax cuts are from the sidelines, but ~$100 extra a month can make a tangible difference for burdened families

I don't think people are complaining about it, even liberals. It's just this has the possibility of creating long term issues and what is an extra $100 per month for those people is an extra couple million for the 1%, which is most likely not needed for those folks.

Its because theyre either trolling or dont care about long-term issues.

Especially because its likely itll be Democrats in charge when the tax cuts end and Republicans will be able to point the finger if they dont stay ended.

But dont worry, the cuts for the 1% are there forever!

Oh Im pretty sure how. Cutting taxes during a period of economic expansion = lack of funding during an inevitable recession = GOP trying to cut social programs as theyve done in the past. Also, corporations saving billions and not having to give it away to taxes = no incentive to reinvest it back into their businesses = less economic growth and less job creation. Is that specific enough?

Yes, that is the problem exactly, but it shouldn't be about the size. It should be about the percent. Lower class cut is helping them take home what, an extra 5%/month or whatever. For the upper class they are taking home an extra 15%/month. They upper class shouldn't get a larger tax cut, they should get the same amount as the lower class. But, ok, be happy with your extra $150 dollars per month, oh boy that's awesome.

EDIT: just note, these values are just examples, not fact, but get the point across of what is happening.
