Angie Werner was left scratching her head after she was stumped on her 7 y/o daughter's math homework!!

She asked social media for help and many people gave her various responses..and while at first it seemed simple, many people miffed at the question!!..

Can you solve this question? let's see if people can

s + l = 49
s = l + 36
l + 36 + l = 49
2l = 13
l = 6.5
s = 36 + 6.5
s = 42.5

To be fair, algebra isn't something usually given to 3rd graders. It's kind of weird that she was unable to logic this out, though, but #dailymail. Also,

I mean technically the answer should be "Not enough information". Because there could be medium sized dogs. 3 medium sized dogs, 41 small dogs, and 5 large dogs works.

But I still don't get how people got 13. The number has to be at least 36.

they got to here, but had l = 13, then accidentally swapped large and small in their heads or something. or accidentally subtracted 36 from 49 instead of adding, then didn't divide by two. but yeah either way they're mixing up large and small.

I assume there are no medium dogs because they were utterly destroyed in the great dog war that preceded this show. Respect to our half dogs who returned home heroes but at a great cost.

What if the half dogs are still alive and well but they have cats for their other halves?

Well, the alternative is having half dogs, so...

Basically, the issue isn't that they couldn't do the math. The issue was that the words used for that math problem are very likely to confuse somebody since you end up with half dogs, which logically isn't possible. If it was like, pizzas, then things would be different.

Well, the assumption of "medium dogs" would typically only come from realizing you can't have a whole number amount of small and large dogs without some type of third dog. So "half dogs" directly leads to the potential of "medium dogs."

If this is a Common Core question then that leads me to believe the kids are absolutely supposed to think there could be medium dogs.

Alternately, a sole medium dog could be considered halfway between a small and large one and thus contribute .5 to each of their numbers.
Or it could channel spirits, I guess.
