Are we allowing "perfect rolls?"
https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Ventor%27s_Gamble

Path of Exile has as a rare unique with about 7 different attributes, with half the values ranging from -25 to +50. There is a 1 out of 45.5 billion chance that a ventor's explicit modifiers will roll perfectly, on top of the dreadfully low odds to get it in the first place.

FFXII's Danjuro has to be pretty high on the list. Without exploits, iirc you have to grind somewhere between 80-255 lesser enemies to get a Larva Eater to appear in the first place, and then it's something like a 1-in-100 chance to get a Danjuro to drop from the Eater.

Whatever odds that works out to, it's still pretty damn ridiculous for a unique weapon in a single-player game with no acquisition alternative. Only by the direct intervention of God did I manage to get a Danjuro just one time - I couldn't get the exploit to work and had to grind the old fashioned way, and I managed to snag one on the very last Eater I fought before I was planning to give up for good.

1/64 drop from a monster with a 1/64 spawn chance. 1 / 4k isn't that bad, in the scheme of things. Stuff like Diablo or PoE have lower drop chances, but the mob kill rate is 100's in a minute as compared to FF4's which is like... 1 encounter a minute.

sword of kings for Poo

This. It's literally Poo's only weapon in the game, it has a droprate of 1/128, and the enemy that drops it only appears in a short 20 minute dungeon that disappears forever once you beat it.

I remember I literally grinded the whole party up 20 levels just looking for that damn sword. The levels I gained from just looking for the stupid thing outweigh the attack bonus I would've gotten from it anyway >_>

No idea what it was called, but I remember reading about some game where, if you tried to open a certain door, there was a tiny chance it locked you in, turned the world hellish, and a creepy giant face appeared behind you to just stare at you until you turned the game off.

No idea what possess devs to include shit like that.

Yeah I looked it up and that weapon adds like 30 offence or something? Its so underwhelming for something so rare.

Do gachas count? There was a ridiculously rare character in Granblue fantasy that some people spent a million dollars trying to get.

Do you know what character it was? Interested in hearing more about this

Yeah I'm curious as well because though I've only played Granblue for a little bit nothing particularly seemed unreasonable to get if you were determined.

It was hard to dig up because almost all search results just point to the wiki, but my memory was off a little it was over a million dollars collectively. The most money a single person spent was $6000 and the rules were changed after that happened where if you fail after 300 attempts it unlocks anyway meaning the most amount of money it takes to get any single character is now $800.

Lol I kinda hate how so many games are *so ridiculous* that they ruin topics like this as a fun debate/conversation.

Like there was a topic about most useless party members in an rpg a while back and people immediately started posting about some dude who had like no attacks and terrible stats who couldn't level up and it's just like...surge.

I immediately think of Phantasy Star Online's hilariously bad drop rates on things, especially in the Dreamcast era. Ubers were truly uber. Sure, people hacked them in, but even today in the private server scene with no hacks... very few people have the Ubers, and they still drive their hunters insane.

Psycho Wand and Sealed J-Sword immediately come to mind.

instantly tried to remember if it was the Sealed J Sword or Nels Claw,

I highest % i can recall is 1/50-something thousand..... pardon me, it been years, its actually over 100000 for Psycho Wand like you said but also Heavens Punisher...

Can you imagine having a LEGIT TJ Sword???? Or any of the Morfos/Sinew Zele Ult drops???

Not worst ever but worst I played was Ragnarok Online. Lots of items had .01% drop rates and they were essential to building your character so 100% of that game was pretty much just grinding.

Real Nei's Claw is probably the hardest item to get in the entire game. Let me just refresh my memory on the drop rate... 1/25k ish, which is already pretty abysmal. THEN you find out which enemy drops it... Freaking Ill Gill. No thanks.

Episode IV has a seemingly less terrible option with Girtablulu dropping it 1/8192... but I'm pretty sure you'll have an easier time hunting the Ill Gills.

Oh.

Halfway through the game, the drop rate for Melons in SWG became 0.

I mean I guess they technically never dropped, but they removed new sources of melons.

So the only way to get a melon was from another player who had one before they were removed.
