i never beat solid 4 or 5. i tried playing 4 after they did ground zero and i was really hyped for 5 to come out. but 4 was just meh from the few hours i played and i just gave up on it. i bought 5 and still haven't played after all the drama with kojima. i should at least try 5 someday.

I honestly probably prefer it to V (but not 1-3). At least it actually has some good boss fights. The gameplay goes downhill in the last 3 acts. If it kept up the quality of the first two acts, it'd be amazing. Also, if the cutscenes were spread out more.

If the whole game played how Act 1 played, itd be godly.

I liked the faction vs faction element in the first two acts, how you could influence the outcome of the battle, or if you'd prefer just ignore the whole battle and sneak past it.
Then after Act 2, that's gone for the rest of the game. It's just "Get from A to B and don't get spotted, as usual."

I'm not sure what the creators were thinking. I understand they wanted to include some variety in gameplay, but it led to a point were it seems like they just weren't sure on where to go, they didn't have enough time or they just had no clue on how to implement an element like that for the rest of the acts. At the very least they could've added a faction vs faction battle in Act 5. It wouldn't have been that hard to implement.

The evidence in the game does seem to suggest that. If you look at the area Act 3 takes place in, it's large and detailed just like the areas in the first two acts, as if something more was planned. Then after that, the areas become much smaller, culminating in Act 5 that features just one room of regular gameplay.

I played the MGS series for the first time front to back when MGSV came out, and I remember literally almost nothing about the plot. That shit is convoluted as fuck.

And yet, somehow, the end scene between Big Boss and Old Snake still gets me misty eyed.

Act 1 was a lot of fun, so was Act 2. 3, 4, and 5 are all far too short gameplay wise though. Especially Act 5 holy shit. Its like 5 minutes of playing and 2 hours of watching. I don't mind long cutscenes but at least let me play sometimes too.

And one thing I never liked was how Snake returns to the Nomad after every chapter to fly somewhere else. I liked how in the old games, from the start, he never got to go back to base or met up with allies from his own organization. He and BB were mostly on their own, only with verbal support and each game was like one long adventure.

I didn't like the weapon shop in 4 either, but I guess it fit the theme of the game.

Also Old Snake looks goofy. That big dumb mustache looks ridiculous, they should've just added grey in his brown hair and made him look sort of like how he did in MGS2, but a little older and sicker. Ditch the mustache and give him some stubble or a beard or something. Just the bright white mullet and huge grandpa mustache is hard to take seriously lol.

Yeah, being behind enemy lines made you really feel like a secret agent fighting against impossible odds and made the whole experience more cohesive. The loading times and 'down time' between missions bog things down a bit in 4 and V.

I didn't really mind that, but I guess that having to procure weapons on site fed into the above aspects. Buying weapons is also another thing that interrupts the flow of the game, although 3's Cure and camouflage systems did that too. As much as I love 3, it did probably start that trend of adding superfluous elements.

IIRC the mustache and wrinkles was specifically ordered by Sony to show off PS3's power at that time.
