They need to do a new mario rpg that isn't ass like sticker star.

Weren't the new Mario & Luigi games good? Paper Jam or whatever but especially Dream Team?

The latter's spritework alone is a love letter.

Yes. Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team, and Paper Jam are all fantastic. I didn't play the remake of Superstar Saga. Partners in Time was the weakest entry IMO.

The game did have some bullshit that you'd never figure out without a guide.

You literally have to disrupt the story to discover the first hidden treasure and you only get one chance to do so.

i actually figured out how to get that treasure chest without a guide
after i got the item that rings when you are in a room with a treasure chest i looked everywhere for the invisible one but couldnt find it

i knew you could ride the toads head because i did it for fun so i reset the game to see if that was how you got the treasure chest and after a few resets i did get it.

You still had to reset the entire game to reach it and it's still a break from the story.

That's nothing it's an optional hidden chest
Finding the gold nail in secret of the stars is mandatory

The game give you know hint as you where it is. All it tells you is that you can't fix the boat without one and by this point you have explored most of the world map so it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack

You need to go behind a panel in a wall of a house that is way out of the way and you only visited once before in the game and you couldnt go behind the wall at that point or any other point in the game

Yaridovich, Axem Rangers, and Smithy were the difficult ones for me.

It was my first RPG, so I picked the health increase every time. It made it impossible to beat Smithy because my defensive skills were so weak. I also used Bowser and Mallow (and continue to do so), so Peach's game breaking healing powers weren't a factor.

there isnt one
and you make it sound like beating culex with no items is hard O_o
you still have peach there to trivialize the entire fight
hell if you equip her with the lazy shell you can just let the crystals waste their FP and then revive everyone and just attack for a super easy win

Like holy crap dude. I remember playing it as a kid, having like 350HP as Mario and then when I played through it again when I was older and understood RPG mechanics, I remember Mario having like 150HP at the end of the game and being like "Wait, how'd that happen?"

I wonder how video games wind up with uninspired final bosses. Is it because their creativity goes into making the earlier bosses and they've run out of ideas by the final boss? Is it because they feel they have to conform to what a final boss should look like?

In the case of Super Mario RPG, they were pretty lazy with the final boss. The enemies are weapons, so let's make the final boss a blacksmith. :/

I can't say I had any expectations of what Smithy would look like because I thought "Smithy" was the name of the giant sword. But I will say that I randomly selected three NES / SNES games from my collection and all three of them had more imaginative final bosses than Super Mario RPG.

TMNT 2: The Arcade Game
- Shredder

Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team
- The Dark Queen

Mega Man X
- Sigma

The Dark Queen is a leather clad dominatrix who wouldn't be appropriate for the Mario series and Sigma is just a Dragon Ball Z villain who shaved his head and changed his name for copyright purposes. But they still stand out in comparison to Smithy.

I mean, okay. That was a licensing game. They didn't have much of a choice in who would be the final boss. But he still has a unique look.

Smithy's design could work with more time for character development. But in terms of him being the unseen boss behind the final door, that look is a bit of a letdown.

Know what? Ironically, Thousand Year Door had a similar thing happen with the Shadow Queen. TBF at least in that game's case the final boss is unseen the whole game for the sake of a plot twist, but even so when you finally find out about her she's just sort of a purpley blob lady. Compared to the rest of the insanely creative characters in that game, Shadow Queen was really bland.

And don't get me wrong, TTYD is like in my Top 5 games ever made.

This was a typical Square trope back in the day. The Final Fantasies would always paint someone as the main villian and do a complete switcheroo at the very end out of nowhere.

I'm not going to put any names, but I remember one game where they build up the main bad guy the entire game. The final battle is tough and takes a lot to beat. Then, once you beat him, some random entity shows up like "I'M GOD!" and fights you.

The game that I grabbed at random was Battletoads / Double Dragon. It's much easier than Battletoads. And to see the final boss, you need only to wait about 30 seconds during the introduction.

But the cape is outstretched and positioned opposite from the viewer. In order to get that angle, she'd have to be wearing it backwards or have a ring around her neck which would allow her cape to rotate.

Daisy's boobs jiggle a little when you pick her on the character select screen in Mario Kart 8. Like not really JIGGLE jiggle, but they do very conspicuously bounce up and back down.
