Surprising literally no one. It's going to appeal to DBZ fans; that's a given. It's an ASW title so the anime fighter crowd is interested. It's a dynamic three on three fighter ala MVC with assists and fun to look at. It looks pretty. The spectacle is important, since that's what's drawing non-competitive fans to the MK series, which is the best selling FG franchise right now.

It appears to be a competently programmed fighting game that's getting featured at this years EVO. Also SF and MvC have had troubled roll-outs that have depressed their fandom within the FGC. Also this is kind of a dead zone. These things together equal more FGC attention.

There are several gamer demographics being coddled here, and if there is any overlap in a fan, their purchasing it is almost guaranteed if they can afford it. In theory it should be doing very well. So seeing that reflected in the numbers isn't really surprising.

The only reason I've not purchased it, is because I've already decided BBCrossTag appeals to me more and that's where I want to drop the $60.00.

Game looks damn good and I'd get it, but a) dental fees coming up, and b) the Cross Tag DLC fiasco currently has me in the mindset to not give Arcsys a dime for the time being. This game's season pass doesn't help matters either.

There's the possibility new depths will be discovered, but in a lot of cases that doesn't happen. And if it doesn't happen, its community won't last more an a year.

Those situations are less common. The bulk of SFV gameplay happens in the neutral, and the key is knowing when you can and can't press buttons, which itself is just knowledge of frame data for the cast. Now once you know frame data you know what attacks are better at stuff opposing pokes, and from that you can look at the normals with crush counter properties and figure out which normals are best at fishing for crush counters. All this is how you get this.

If you got crush countered, you need to stop mashing. Also it isnt 2016 anymore. Get new material.

I don't think DBFZ is as simple as people think. On the surface it seems so because characters don't have a ton of individual moves, but even the pros are still learning mechanics. It was only last week that they discovered that you can call assist supers during regular combos without having to initiate your own super first.

I feel like Persona 4 Arena is a decent comparison here, for a game that looked like a slowed down version of BlazBlue with auto combos, and less depth than its spiritual progenitors, but that people managed to stretch out for a year until they got the updated release to breathe new life into things.

There's some other considerations? Does this do the most damage, or does it give me a hard knockdown? How can I best take advantage of the frame advantage this gives me if I go for the knockdown. Alternatively, there's the issue if it's worth doing a combo if it resets the situation to normal (poor Gief), or if I should instead go for a line that keeps me in a position where I can keep applying pressure. What gives me the most meter? What about stun?

You'll have like three or four combos.

Poke hit confirm into knockdown
Basic BnB. (Ideally into knockdown/mix up)
BnB from counterhit where you can situationally hit confirm lights into mediums into knockdowns
Crush counter goodness (for when you gamble and guess correctly)
V.Trigger combo (for when you need to extend a combo, or set one up).

You can staple a super on to any of these.

Autocombos do very little damage.

They're there to ease you in to the game, then you have to learn to chain together moves properly to get 40-50% damage.

I mean it makes sense, it has all the right recipe to a great selling game. DBZ is a cash cow, game looks great aesthetically, and 3vs3 gameplay (it also helped that MvsCI 2vs2 looked like a step down for most people). However, I only played the beta and the game felt barebones which is why I didn't bother buying it. They really need to find new things in this game or else it's going to go dead in a month, maybe it can pull a Persona 4 arena.

We'll see. I'm still salty about getting burned for the collectors edition of 5. The lack of content and characters was a tragedy, but the character creation was the shining light. If they just took the story features and creation classes from 3 and mixed them with 5 then 6 could be pretty damn good.
