Is a bar a good place to have alcohol for the first time? I didn't get super drunk when I first started drinking, but I don't know if I would have wanted to start in a bar. I like the idea of knowing how I react to it before I might make an ass of myself in public... but then I still make an ass of myself in public anyway

Not all bars are like that... there's so many different styles of bars. I've been to a bar in Los Angeles that is basically an old school arcade. I've been to a library styled bar. There's an 80's bar in my area. Dive bars with pool halls. Etc.

Bars suck. You're not missing out.

I stopped going to the bar a few years ago. Literally every time I went someone would try to fight me, or someone else (but usually me), and the cops would show up.

I don't mind bars but honestly prefer a nice country pub. Clubs, although a option at times are normally way to busy for me, noisy and stink. Unfortunately the later is better for interacting with girls. Still it's no surprise you've never been to one as although you can go solo it's best not to. If you have nobody to go with then it wouldn't really be a option. None of these would really.

Drinking alcohol at home alone is boring to me for the most part. Plus it can make my self pity worse sometimes. Still it's nice to have a few beers on a hot/stressful day just to unwind. Even if you don't like beer alcohol comes in many forms. No harm in trying it at some point unless you're 'straight edge' and have no interest in it.

I've never been to one either, or had alcohol. My family is full of raging alcoholics, and I've seen first hand how it can ruin lives, so I've never had any interest in alcohol. Also, both local bars shut down anyway, there aren't even any here any more. They were very popular hangouts, but people kept getting blackout drunk and trying to drive home. Each one closed after a customer ran over and killed an innocent bystander in the parking lot. Some people have tried opening other bars, but the town shuts them down now. Most people in my area have a substance abuse problem, and there's no reason to further endanger others because these ones can't control themselves. Everyone just buys licquor and parties at home now.

It really is. Anything "fun" that opens up here ends up closing shortly after because it doesn't earn any profit. The area is actually dying economically, and in a few weeks there's going to be a town meeting to discuss what can be done to rejuvenate the area so it doesn't become a ghost town. They'll supposedly be handing out grants to open new businesses and attract more people. So I'm hoping that something, anything, fun or exciting comes out of this. But realistically, probably nothing but more failed ventures.
