This is a pretty unique feature that not many board games have. They're generally referred to as "Legacy" games which are games meant to be played over many, many sessions. Those were just enough to fill our pre-orders back in June O____o But everyone's been loving it, and coincidentally I designed a card combat like system similar to Gloomhaven a while ago, and I'm glad someone had the same vision I had! A friend of mine literally bought it for himself just this past Christmas but it makes sense if the "release date" was because availability was limited.
