Good. American companies can't compete with Chinese government subsidized solar equipment. This is a fantastic move if you want American companies to compete in the solar energy market. But if you want China to monopolize the industry, I guess I can see being upset.

conservatives think high tariffs can kill overseas competition, thus making people buy 'Murican!

but for that to even have a chance to work America has to be producing the thing in the first place. As you can see, that's not really the case...

Lmao this was a link in the article

But a few years ago, Lamon saw that coals future was bleak, and he switched to building solar power plants. Now hes worried that a pending decision by Trump will imperil his business.

The Trump Administration is weighing a tariff on solar panel imports essentially taxing them more than panels made in the U.S. a move that analysts say could abruptly raise the price of building new solar power plants in the U.S., potentially killing a rapidly growing industry that primarily employs blue collar workers.

That would hit Lamon and his employees hard.

But Trump loves the blue collar guys right

Why don't you go ahead and explain how we'd be sending money to the Middle East. Before you answer, I'm going to give you some study questions:

How much of our electricity is generated from solar panels?
How much of our electricity is generated from oil?
Where is most of our imported oil from?

Being informed, try it sometime.

This case has been in the works for a while, but this is bad news for solar. It's because a couple of domestic solar manufacturers whined that they weren't able to keep up with cheap panels being manufactured in Malaysia and China in particular, from what I understand

Apparently no one knows what tariff means, because people ITT are ignoring the fact that the price increase is on imported solar panels.

Companies will have to make or buy solar panels made in the US, and they will because solar is probably the future

This is bad for the solar power industry because it is now more expensive on a $/watt basis to install a solar project. When the solar industry puts the numbers into their spreadsheets to see if a potential project is profitable enough, now they are going to have to punch in the numbers for more expensive panels. That means fewer projects are going to be viable.

There's a reason the solar industry is upset about this, with the exception of the domestic manufacturers who benefit from it. Ironically one company, First Solar, that does all their manufacturing in overseas was supporting this because they use a different kind of solar panel technology (Cadmium telluride rather than crystalline silicon), and this tariff doesn't apply to their panels. So they get to keep importing at that cheap price while most everyone else uses crystalline silicon and is getting screwed. Lol.

Who are you talking about?

The tariffs are just the latest action Trump has taken that undermine the economics of renewable energy. The administration has already decided to pull the U.S. out of the international Paris climate agreement, rolled back Obama-era regulations on power plant-emissions and passed sweeping tax reforms that constrained financing for solar and wind. The import taxes, however, will prove to be the most targeted strike on the industry yet.

That seems to be the concern to me?

Kind Regards,
Darmik
